I'm very much for the scan and donate option. I'd be happy to help with the
labor-intensive scan/upload/rectify tasks but I have no clue where to get the
hardware for the first step ?

Brian,
You already know my opinion. Donate whatever we definitely can't make use
of, scan anything else that might be useful, then donate those too.
The only issues are with the volume of these sheets and how to decide where
to start and finish.
