I can think of many examples of governments importing data into OSM, but none
where they are using it actively. Is that what you are looking for examples
of?

I think Alex' inquiry was meant the other way round. That is, governments
using OSM data for whatever purpose. The example I'm most familiar with is
TriMet in Portland, OR, which uses OSM as a basemap for their TripPlanner.

mentioned this to alex earlier, but i believe trimet was also editing bike path
data though not sure what came of that. the state dept uses OSM but i don't
have a specific example in production by way of example.

I like this example - Natural Resources Canada are OSM to identify areas in
their own data in need of updates. They contribute loads of data, and then
watch where that data got changed and use that to identify where they need
to re-survey. (As reported by a colleague.)

of work with local governments on stuff that used OSM as a basemap.
i'm working on my emergency services thing, but i haven't quite got any
local FDs signed up just yet.
