The Talk2 List Nebraska senator sues God

2007-09-19 Thread Thomas (TJ) Olsen
Nebraska senator sues God Nebraska State Senator Ernie Chambers filed suit
against God Friday, asking a court to order the Almighty and his followers to
stop making terrorist threats.

The suit (.
pdf
), filed in a Nebraska district court, contends that God, along with his
followers of all persuasions, has made and continues to make terroristic
threats
of grave harm to innumerable persons. Those threats are credible given God's
history, Chambers' complaint says.

Chambers, in a fit of alliteration, also accuses God of causing fearsome
floods, egregious earthquakes, horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes,
pestilential
plagues, ferocious famines, devastating droughts, genocidal wars, birth
defects, and the like.

Sadly a lot of you can't do this, but for those in the UK who might be
interested, it could prove interesting.

This is a possible time-waster so feel free to skip.

On Monday, September 10, 2007 1:16 PM,
Katherine Moonan happened to mention in passing:

Dear AbilityNet tester,

We are currently researching the use of social networking websites (such
as MySpace, YouTube and Facebook) by people with disabilities.

We'd like to hear about the networking sites you enjoy using, which ones
are not accessible to you and what improvements you would like to see
made.

Also, if you live in the Greater London area and would like to be take
part in a usability test or be interviewed on video please get in touch.

The questionnaire starts with an introduction; you can go straight to
the form if you don't want to read it.

We estimate the form will take between 20 and 45 minutes to complete,
depending on whether you're using an assistive technology.

If you don't want to fill out the whole questionnaire, you can either
complete the parts you're interested in or reply viaa email.

Please do forward this email to anyone you think might be interested.

All responses need to back by next Monday (17th September).

We have tested the form with a variety of assistive technologies but
even we get things wrong!

So if you have a problem, please do throw a tomato at me and if you have
a moment let us know and we'll fix it.

Many thanks in advance for your time,

Kath

Yes, folks, that's right. FX Radio has been dead for six months, but
it's back, with an all-new machine, more sound effects (including
additional breaky noises), and everything!

You may be asking yourself What, exactly, is FX Radio, and why
would I want to listen?
To answer your questions, it's a rather strange concept that Derek
and I came up with in the summer of 2005, when we were both rather
bored. Basically, it's the result of what happens when you load
three instances of winamp equipped with crossfaders, then load a
crap load of high quality sound effects libraries into each winamp,
making sure, of course, that everything is perfectly randomized.
The sequence of events that can happen as a result of this are rather
strange, and many interesting things can happen to
your mind as a result of listening to the odd combinations of things
that occur.

Have you ever seen a bird driving a car under water, all the while
being chased by a telephone? Or, perhaps, little kids
playing in underwater construction sites? How about babies with power
tools, dogs driving trains, tanks plowing through restaurants, sheep
making things blow up just for the fun of it, or what's currently
playing, which happens to be a mocking bird with a machine gun
shooting at a helicopter?
All these things can and have been known to happen on FX Radio, all
sound effects, all the time, 24 hours a day!

To tune in, you will need a streaming media player compatible with
AAC+ streaming, such as Winamp (5.1 or higher, except 5.22 which has
a bug that breaks AAC streams), VLC Mediaplayer, or Foobar 2000 0.9
or higher. If you have a compatible player, put in one of the following
addresses: shoutcast:
http://fx.pdaudio.net:80
icecast (less delay, may buffer more depending on your situation):
http://tbrn.net:/fx.aac

Note: If you are using the Thompson mp3 pro decoder for Winamp, the
shoutcast stream will not work unless it is disabled. Really, if
you're still using it, you're bad, since that format has been
officially scrapped by it's developers!
The icecast feed will work, even with the Thompson mp3 decoder,
however, since the .aac extension will not be passed off to the mp3
pro decoder. Also, since the shoutcast server is on port 80, this means
you can

listen to FX Radio behind any proxy server that only
allows access to http, such as universities and other institutions.
Yes, a nice distraction during class might be good,
don't you think?
Why not freak out your friends, classmates or co-workers while
you're at it? Maybe all of the above, or something worse?

Close your eyes, put on some headphones, tune in, and get ready for
a very strange, and altogether different experience!

Note: PD Audio Productions is not responsible for any permanent
psychological or neurological damage that may occur as a result of
any individual who falls asleep with FX Radio on. No warranty is
implied, expressed, congested, molested, suggested, conjugated,
emulated, isolated infiltrated, confiscated, or any of that mess.
Basically, if bad things happen, we didn't do it!

It's back, and it's possibly worse than ever... Better? Well, it
can't get much worse, I suppose, so we'll pretend it's better than
it was, just out of interest.

P.S. An Athlon64 3400 with a gig of ram and a 250 GB hard drive is a
bit overkill for this project, at least as a dedicated box for said
project. Oh well...
I'm going to bed!

Apple Confirms iPhone Release Date, Starts Advertisements

Apple has now solidified an iPhone release date of June 29th, less
than four weeks away. The date closely follows comments by Apple
chief Steve Jobs, who pointed to a late June push during an interview
last week at D5: All Things Digital in Carlsbad, CA. Ahead of the
release, Apple is now spinning a number of television advertisements,
and offering more information about the device in the process.
There's never been an iPod that can do this...or this...or this, one
spot says while a hand deftly flips through album covers, photos, and
answers a phone call. Another spot, called Calamari, shows a user
quickly shifting from viewing Pirates of the Caribbean to locating and
making reservations at a seafood restaurant. The other offers a basic
how-to description of various features, a showcase that reveals an
amazingly smooth handheld. All of the ads brand the device as part of
the new att, and peg the June 29th date.

The advertisements are beyond alluring, though some fine print is also
worth noting. According to the spots, a new, two-year subscription
with ATT is required to secure the device, though viewers are likely
to miss the quickly-shifting subtext. The advertisements also fail to
mention Herculean price tags of $500 (4GB) and $600 (8GB), and early
information indicates that ATT will not be subsidizing discounts.
That creates a nosebleed entry point, though the smartphone market is
mostly characterized by heavier price tags. Looking ahead, less
expensive iPhones could emerge in future months, though Apple has been
characteristically guarded on its roadmap. Meanwhile, Apple is aiming
to capture one-percent of the larger smartphone market, according to
earlier statements.

I mean, the bible says jesus kind of wants to show up and take people away
and all that, but do you really think he has that kind of twisted humor,

Yes, maybe so, as both you and Derek's birthdays are on Thursdays
this year. In fact, two little Thursdays in a row, in this case.

Mine is on a Thursday next year, thanks to 2008 being a leap year.
Andre

Hmm, 30 on a Thursday? That might be a bad day for the bin, indeed!
Well... assuming we're still around after 2012, of course.
