Nice job, Brian. I like the continuous alternating strokes in the
latter part of the tune you put in.

Joe

I seem to notice a trait of Tater followers, and maybe it's a Monroe
trait,
there's a lot of slidin' goin' on. Is that an emulation of the fiddle
in
some manner? I know John Hartford considered Big Mon to be America's
best
fiddler. Or, so he stated in the song, The Cross-Eyed Child.

Re: New Tune/January '11

2010-12-28 Thread jojo
I've not posted a vid yet but I'll raise my hand for the Mississippi
Palisades tune by Chirps Smith, one of Illinois' finest old-time
musicians.

Not sure what the rules are for choosing SOTM... but if'n y'all want a great
tune to learn, I'll suggest Mississippi Palisades by Chirps Smith. I'm very
likely the only one in the group that knows it and that should definitely
change 'cause it's a great one. I have Chirps doing it (banjo/fiddle) and
it's also on the new Rhys Jones record (fiddle/piano/banjo). I could make the
audio available should folks decide they'd like to do it. It'd have to be an
exercise in ear training 'cause no tab exists...

  Here's the deal:
I have two thicknesses, heavy and Xtra heavy. Seems like Dave
  Skowron
said that the heavy is between 1.15mm/ 1.20mm and the Xtras are
1.25mm/ 1.30mm. A lot of you have specified heavy. Given this
information regarding thicknesses, do you want heavy or Xtra heavy?
The sooner I have the info, the sooner they'll go out. Thanks!

Extra Heavy sounds fine to me.

I asked for two should there be enough response for both Extra Heavy
Heavy, I will take one of each. Otherwise, two Extra Heavy are fine.

Thanks,
Joe
