IT appears that one of my folders became corrupted, and now both
maintenance centre and backup freeze when they encounter it. Stop
button in maintenance centre has no effect, but I can close it with
the [X] button. The folder otherwise appears to work fine.
Any ideas?

Yes, you'd expect Maintenance to take care of it. On the other hand
it's better than the often reported message
