It's possible to set up CSS to automatically choose appropriate colours for
dark mode - I do that on some pages on my website (eg.
 - if you browse there with OS in dark
mode, the website will be dark as well).

Additionally, at least Chromium-based browsers have a setting to apply dark
theme to all websites, but in my experience it doesn't look as nice as sites
that have @media (prefers-color-scheme: dark) in CSS.

All modern software is goes few years already to "dark side" and users can
choose white/gray/dark style of interface through settings (all adobe, autodesk
software have this many years for example, win10 have dark theme 2 years
already). Even all modern email-clients have this too. And I'm glad that dark
side is more and more beats "white side".

I was start with computers when monitor shows all in dark with green font. Dark
side is better for me and for my eyes. Yes, some authors of html-emails do
apply direct colors in the letter and we can see them through "classic" theme
in TB!, but when we use it dark themes needs to see all with "dark force".

Thanks to RitLabs for adding this feature, I and many users wait this by many
years.

Basically, you're right - HTML viewer needs to obey the style the sender set
and use current theme settings only for default colors and fonts. But for those
who chose the dark side, it would be pretty much natural to want to view all
messages in dark mode :-)So, that Darkreader tool can be a helpful one,
thanks to George for mentioning it.

I don't understand this discussion about color replacement. Why
replace them at all? Isn't an HTML viewer supposed to render the
colours and style that the originator of a message decided to use?

IE will be killed soon my hands of creators. I forget when open this browser
last time. For chromium-core based browsers I do recommend this extension -
https://darkreader.org/help/en/ - good thing to see how auto-dark-feature needs
to be working.

At this time of beta-test as I think - needs to give to TB! creators more
examples of html-news-emails where auto-coloring isn't work. And dear creators
needs to do something with that. As do this Spark email-client (for example).
