Just noticed there is one part of the UI that is still white in Classic theme -
the empty space after column headers. See attachment.

It's possible to set up CSS to automatically choose appropriate colours for
dark mode - I do that on some pages on my website (eg.
<https://eternallybored.org/misc/wget/> - if you browse there with OS in dark
mode, the website will be dark as well).

Additionally, at least Chromium-based browsers have a setting to apply dark
theme to all websites, but in my experience it doesn't look as nice as sites
that have @media (prefers-color-scheme: dark) in CSS.

This has been bugging me in The Bat for a long time — it always sets the text
colour to my Windows theme text colour, which does not work well with (default)
white background at all — just look at this message for an example (which is
why I'm intentionally sending this as HTML). IMHO, The Bat's editor should not
set any regular colours unless they were changed explicitly.

Yeah, EV is a racket. Luckily it was expunged from the web, but it's still
there for codesigning.

I'm not sure how many downloads are required – the main thing I codesign is
GIMP, and that gets the required number very quickly, but it's probably also

Doesn't matter - I bet most betas are extracted with 7-zip, which doesn't mark
the executables as coming from the Internet, so SmartScreen doesn't verify
them, so only direct MSI downloads will count towards the reputation.

If your old certificate is still valid, you could try dual-signing (though I'm
not sure if MSI files support that).

IMHO, the scroll direction should be switched around (right now
scrolling up makes the tabs move to the left, which at least to me is
counter-intuitive - scrolling up should move to the beginning); would
also be nice if the tabs responded to horizontal scrollwheel or wheel

Return-Path may be added by the receiving e-mail server, and it
contains the envelope From address (the address where bounces return
to), but this header isn't normally used by e-mail clients.

The e-mail client should reply to the Reply-To address, if it's
present, and to the From address otherwise. If the From address
contains your own address, you will have to find out why this happens
yourself (this is either a misconfiguration on the sender's part, or

Another really annoying one: every time a new .msi is released, the
pinned icon in taskbar stops working. I've been skipping .msi releases
for this reason, because I then have to unpin the old icon and pin the
new one (and move it to the beginning of taskbar, so my Win+number
order remains the same).

And here's one not so much a PITA, but a would-be-nice-to-have: when
there are deep threads, TB currently expands the Subject column (see
attached thebat.png) - I'd like it better if it did the same thing as
my newsreader, which simply restarts too deep threads at the beginning
of the column, and indicates that it did this by changing the colour
of the tree lines (see dialog.png; I had to make the window very
narrow to show the effect, since I couldn't find any deep enough
thread there).

This version seems much slower than the previous one - eg. it took
about 4 seconds between me pressing F4 and the editor opening (I then
closed it, and tried again, and it was similarly slow again); during
the wait, the toolbar icons in the main window were flickering a bit.

Another problem is that all the tree lines are missing, both in folder
and message list panes - makes it harder to see what threads where.

IE engine should suffice for e-mails - pretty much all newsletters are
designed with Outlook in mind, and that uses Word to render HTML

This has now moved to the Edit Mail Message window - either opening a
new message, or replying to existing message will cause the toolbars
there to flicker for several seconds.

Switching between messages takes about 1-2 seconds in this version,

When using Ribbon interface with skins disabled, there are two
problems:

- in main window, ribbon has black text on white background instead of
  using Windows colour scheme

- in Edit window, ribbon background uses Windows' colour scheme, but
the text is still black, which makes it (almost) invisible

Here's a screenshot of the problem:

To me that looks like the Original Text pane - when I click Reply, the
pane also takes a moment before it appears, and the lack of bottom
notch on the scrollbar suggests that it's extended below the bottom
edge of the window (that this is possible is definitely a bug).

Does anything happen if you toggle the "Original text" option in the

Check if the original message pane is stretched all the way to the
bottom (it may even extend below the bottom edge of the window - try
maximizing it if you can't see the draggable splitter). You can also
try to hide the original message pane through View → Original text.

This is definitely not TB's problem, just something that TB triggers
on your system (normal programs can't crash or freeze Windows). I'd
first try disabling antivirus (if you have one, except for the
built-in Windows Defender), and if that doesn't help, check for driver
updates.

Would it be possible to implement ribbon with skins disabled (with
them enabled, the colours are all wrong, also a lot of text becomes
almost invisible, eg. in Preferences)?

I also noticed that with classic UI and skins disabled, the main
window titlebar is too high (screenshot:

both ribbon and menubar/toolbar when classic UI is enabled.

I don't have Facebook, so I can't comment there - can you show how TB9
looks if you enable "High Contrast - Black" theme in Windows
(preferably, it should turn off it's own skins, and adjust itself to
use the Windows' colours)? I've seen those same skins used in RoyalTS
v3, and they did not look good with my high contrast theme at all.

Another problem, I recently got a client that owns a

You're right, I never tried clicking in the header pane - some of
those that contain embedded NULs get cut off the text after NUL when
you click them (and looking at the columns, tests with \0\n also get
cut off, but I normally don't have the From column wide enough to see

I tested it with the first v6 alpha already, and it worked fine. The
only slight problem I see is that in message list the recipient
address is still shown with punycode (but the headers show it
properly).

I'd also test sending from an IDN, but that's my IMAP account, and TB
6 doesn't want to send anything from there (won't even put the message
in outbox). Note that this isn't IDN-related - the same thing happens
if I use a normal ASCII e-mail address.

- headers pane now sometimes gets horizontal scrollbar

And a problem that's been there since the start of v6:
- common filters don't work (only account-specific ones do)

The number of produced PCs is dramatically decreasing. The major operating

But if this trend keeps on, other operating systems will get more impact.
There is Microsoft's goal to get into this market, but in this moment
Android is the most used system on mobile devices. And Android isn't based
 on Windows. It is Linux.

So you Ritlabs developer guys: when will you start to develop a Linux based
 version of The Bat!?

Desktops and laptops are unlikely to go anywhere, at least in the
business world - there are things you simply can't do with just a
touchscreen. Also, a Linux version of The Bat would not help with
Android at all - while it uses the Linux kernel, that's the only thing
it has in common with regular Linux distributions, so writing a Linux
e-mail client wouldn't get you anywhere near Android.

I somehow managed to end up with a completely empty Edit Mail Message

I'm not sure what triggered this - I selected some text and pressed F4
(Reply with quote), but nothing happened at first. I pressed F4 again,
and this time a normal reply window opened, and I sent the message.
Then I tried to close The Bat, and it asked me if I wanted to save the
message, and this window appeared.
