New MSI files means also new tests against latest wine:

Both (32bit and 64bit) are NOT running on Linux (Debian64) on new
wine v5.12 from July, 3rd, 2020!

Reasons are not clear - I suspect the heavy changes in
wine since v5.10.

You may want to read the changes there:
<https://www.winehq.org/announce/5.11>
These points are not trivial:
  - More work on the separate Unix library for NTDLL.
  - Beginnings of a NetIO kernel driver implementation.

So if you use The Bat! on Linux with wine:
At these moment it is not recommended to update wine or
The Bat!. Stay calm and please wait for new wine.

If you find something not working related to wine please send a bug
report to wine: <https://bugs.winehq.org>
IMPORTANT: Please do not send it to this list.

Please note:
1.) Plugins which are created for use under 32bit didn't work with
64bit version of "The Bat!" (not a wine problem).
2.) A connection to Exchange servers isn't tested yet but may work.
3.) You may or may not find some nice bugs introduced in "The Bat!"
from the windows world also in "The Bat!" on wine. So please watch also
Ritlabs bug tracker very often and very closely. :)

I use some scripts I wrote to download, install and test The Bat!s
32bit and 64bit version against latest wine. One of this scripts was
faulty and so it generates a wrong (old) version string of wine.
So it was more a wine problem than The Bat!s.

Sorry for the noise.

Uuups, I newer noticed this limitation there. And I uploaded a lot of

You are right - until you told me about this limit I never saw this

For TBBETA I would like to say:
There is no change necessary - if somebody whats to send screenshots he

Exactly. TBBETA is only for serious beta testers - this means: very
advanced users and users with a background of development or
administrative tasks.

Toolbar customisation not saved in mail editor (component "TMsgEditor")
See: <https://bt.ritlabs.com/view.php?id=2001>

This happens when I change the toolbar in the mail editor via "Add or
remove buttons" from the drop down menu at the end of a toolbar.

I found this in the 32 bit and in the 64 bit version.

By the side: a change of the language also destroys the toolbar
customisations.

Running The Bat! on wine by using GnuPG from Linux

2019-07-19 Thread Joerg Schiermeier
Hello list, hello Maxim!

The following problem isn't really a problem which should be solved next
time: it's more a general issue with "The Bat!" running on Linux with a
little help from wine. So nothing to really worry about. But maybe I can get
some help or some ideas.

Preface:
Running "The Bat!" on top of a Linux installation with wine is working
without any (known) problem. Also in this special case the interaction with
GnuPG for encrypting and/or signing mails is working. I use GnuPG installed
also in wine (GnuPG as its Windows version).

The Idea:
I want to use the GnuPG infrastructure directly which is installed in Linux.
What is working:
-"The Bat!" works
-I can call GPG from the underlaying Linux via a simple symbolic link to
'/usr/bin/gpg'.
-GnuPG will read my keys correctly, see log from the console.

Could anybody tell me what "ExecuteStdApp PI.hProcess event" means here?
I want to examine this deeper and try to get a better connection to Linux
GnuPG.

This would be helpful to follow the way to run "The Bat!" correctly under
wine/Linux.

But please don't waste time for this - its only my interest to run "The
Bat!" on Linux.
As I said above: this is working nice with GnuPG for Windows.

Thanks a lot!

New MSI files means also new tests against brand new wine v4.1 which was
released just some days ago (February 4, 2019):

Both are running on Linux (Debian64) on latest wine without any (known)
serious problems. See also Wines application database about "The Bat!":
<https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version=29829>

There are also described three different installation methods how to
install "The Bat!" on Linux/Wine.

If you find something not working related to wine please send a bug report
to wine: <https://bugs.winehq.org>
IMPORTANT: Please do not send it to this list (NOT to tbbeta).

Please note:
1.) Plugins which are created for use under 32bit didn't work with 64bit
version of "The Bat!" (not a wine problem). Unless there are no native
64bit
plugins available, this will not be fixed.

2.) A known issue is about the system tray in KDE:
<https://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-bugs/2015-May/413243.html>
So I recommend to switch of the system tray icon in "The Bat!s" preferences.

Please notice: this tests were done by some scripts to get a quick check if
there are some new problems since the last MSIs....

Thanks for your nice work Maxim!

There is a limitation about the interval in which you call the T-Online POP3
server: don't call the pop3 server in less than 15 minutes.

See this:
https://telekomhilft.telekom.de/t5/E-Mail-Programme/Der-Mail-Server-securepop-t-online-de-antwortete-IN-USE-Mailbox/td-p/1249175

It's in German and it is not said clearly that an call under 15 minutes is
blocked, but the context says exactly this.

Maybe this will help.

Yes.

You will have to use the command line parameter:
/reg:

like I do to run 32bit and 64bit The Bat! on my machine.
Here is the example:
/path/to/thebat64.exe /reg:_beta64 /nologo

This creates a separated registry entry called:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!_beta64

and it will do the trick.

If you really did this, this is wrong:

please hold in mind

1) to _encrypt_ a mail with PGP/GnuPG you will have to use the public key of
the addressee, sipmly the guy who you put into the "To:" address field

2) to _sign_ a mail with PGP/GnuPG you will have to use YOUR private key of
the account and mail address you want to send your mail "From:".

Note: there is no other way to do it.

GnuPG support in TB

2017-08-31 Thread Joerg Schiermeier
Hi list!

Three days ago GnuPG 2.2.0 was released. This version is a LTE (Long term
support) version.
See: <http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/info-gnu/2017-08/msg00012.html>

So: Isn't this a good opportunity to fix all issues related to GnuPG 2.x in
The Bat!?

Into the mobile Future

2013-07-02 Thread Joerg Schiermeier
Hi list, hello TB-developers!

Did you get the last numbers about new trends in personal computing?
The number of produced PCs is dramatically decreasing. The major operating
system on PCs was indeed the Windows OS.
But if this trend keeps on, other operating systems will get more impact.
There is Microsoft's goal to get into this market, but in this moment
Android is the most used system on mobile devices. And Android isn't based
on Windows. It is Linux.

So you Ritlabs developer guys: when will you start to develop a Linux based
version of The Bat!?

I hope you didn't miss this point of view.

Also it will help, if there is a documention about the actual addressbook
file-format about ABD-files. This will enhance the possibility of third

Yes, good idea. But see this:
 Android is Linux.
And 'The Bat!' is running under wine:

There was an error in my thoughts, sorry.
'The Bat!' is running fine under wine on Linux/MacOS X/BSD/... (all
plattforms which are supported by wine.

 Take it. It works well.
Thats true (for 'The Bat!') - but not for wine:
wine didn't work on Android.
See:

This is for all 'The Bat!'-user who want to change to Linux (German only):
If you can understand German than read also:

And what is the default application for HTML?
Change this to Firefox - and it will work.

Not a 'The Bat!' issue.

MantisBT - next step(s)

2012-04-21 Thread Joerg Schiermeier
Hello list,
dear Maxim,

could you please tell, what exactly happens with your bugtracker databse?

This is important to know, because if also all bugreports are lost, we
ß-testers had to search for our posted reports and file it then again. But
this need time and so it would be nice to know whats up and what we can do.

Thanks for your attention.

Things are moving in the right direction! :))

Confirmed.

Is this a real and serious installation?
E.g. the logo is missing and some other parts of a normal a Mantis
Bugtracker installation. To me it seems more like a placebo.

Until there is something new, you could temporarily remove the link and

This isn't possible because the system only allows valid URLs.
So I just removed the bugtracker link.

Would be nice if someone informs me when the bugtracker is online again.
