TBBETA farewell letter

2020-05-25 Thread Maxim Masiutin
Dear TBBETA subsribers,

In this farewell letter I just want to let you know that I step down and leave
Ritlabs today on Math 25th, 2020.

I’m leaving because I would like Stefan Tanurcov to lead the company, and, of
course, to speed up The Bat! development, to take The Bat! to new heights, not
only in features, but in stability and user friendliness, as well as developing
new beautiful kinds of software.

My email address m...@ritlabs.com will no longer be available, but you will be
able to contact me via maxim.masiu...@gmail.com or other email that I will
provide in future. The address maxim.masiu...@gmail.com is temporary. I always
wrote that I don’t like global email providers like this one. I always thought
that each company, and even a serious professional, can and should keep own
email server.

Other employees keep working at Ritlabs.

In this letter I would like to express my gratitude to all the people with whom
I worked more than 20 years. This letter is an opportunity to share my
appreciation for everyone I was able to work with, for example, email
professionals, email fans, emailaholics international, etc. I express my thanks
to all the people who contributed to The Bat! Development, mostly to The Bat!
Testers and honorable supporters.

I appreciate and thank all our colleagues from TBBETA for the help and support.
I thank you all for your love, support, care, kindness and help in The Bat!
development.

I express my sincere prayers and wishes! I will miss you much in future, and
would like to reiterate how valuable you are.

Does your CPU support hardware SHA1 acceleration?

2020-05-19 Thread Maxim Masiutin via TBBETA
Hello Tbbeta,

Does your CPU support Intel SHA extensions? These are instructions introduced
on Intel Goldmont microarchitecture. AMD added support in their processors for
these instructions starting with Ryzen. There are seven new SSE-based
instructions, four supporting SHA-1 and three for SHA-256.

You can run The Bat! with /SHA1_BENCHMARK command-line parameter to figure out
whether your CPU supports SHA1 acceleration instructions, for example:

thebat64.exe /SHA1_BENCHMARK

On my computer, running The Bat! as above gives the following results:

---
SHA1 benchmark
---
150 data blocks of 1024 bytes took 1.3579 seconds to process by SHA1 using
CPU instructions (hardware), 1078.7605 Megabytes per second; 2.1496 seconds to
process by software implementation, 681.4596 Megabytes per second
---
OK
---

Could you please post your results here? Thank you in advance.

It was me who pasted bad characters, not a mailing list software issue or
whatsoever. The correct text is the following.

[*] In an ECDSA signature, if a hash function had larger digest length (in
bits) than the field size (which is not a good practice), The Bat! treated
these signatures as invalid. It might lead to invalid ECC certificates, e.g.
signed by "sha512ECDSA" algorithm. It might also lead to the following error:
"TLS protocol error: Internal error BuildClientKeyExchange". For more
information, see section 6.4 of FIPS.186-4 "ECDSA Digital Signature Generation
and Verification": it is recommended that the security strength associated with
the bit length of n and the security strength of the hash function be the same
unless an agreement has been made between participating entities to use a
stronger hash function. When the length of the output of the hash function is
greater than the bit length of n, then the leftmost n bits of the hash function
output block shall be used in any calculation using the hash function output
during the generation or verification of a digital signature. A hash function
that provides a lower security strength than the security strength associated
with the bit length of n ordinarily should not be used, since this would reduce
the security strength of the digital signature process to a level no greater
than that provided by the hash function.

We did only migrated two windows to the new system so far: the main window and

How did you manage to have both of them checked at the same time? Could you

9.0.16.9 new images

2020-02-19 Thread Maxim Masiutin via TBBETA
Please review 9.0.16.9 new command images (used in menus and toolbars).

You may see 16x16 versions of each image in menu unless you have 175% or higher
DPI (in this case 32x32 images are used in menus). If DPI differs from 100%,
the images are scaled up or down (unless DPI is 200% - in this case, for small
images (e.g. in menus) only 32x32 versions are used, and for the big images
(e.g. in toolbars) the images are scaled up).

If a particular image in the menus look small for you, you can configure it on
a toolbar to see a larger version.

If some images are not self-explanatory (e.g. it is not evident what they do),
or are confusing, perplexing, etc. – please let us know. Your ideas are welcome
on how to improve the images for better association with the underlying command
or action.

It should be the radio-group (one option only selected, mutually-exclusive),
not the check boxes. In the meanwhile, you can configure it in the
"Options->Preferences" dialog box. Go to the General tab, and you will see the
"Display Connection Center" combo-box.

Could you please clarify what do you mean by `if i check "hide" it also checks
"automatically"`?

I just went to Options -> Prefernces -> General tab -> Display Connection
Center combo box (drop down) - if you select "Hide", this will be the only
option, so it will not be able to have another option selected like
"automatically". I have made "Hide" option is selected, and clicked "Get New
Mail for All" and "Check and Send for All" - the Connection Center remained
hidden.

You are right. We have different images for larger and smaller icon. Smaller
icon have fewer details. It is better to have a different image that to simply
scale down a larger icon - scaled down images would not look good on normal (96

We did include by mistake all the skins available in the DevExpress library

2019-11-26 Thread Maxim Masiutin via TBBETA
Hello,

Please try The Bat! 9.0.0.30 MSI files.

What's new in The Bat! version 9.0.0.30 MSI since 8.8.9 MSI:

[!] New interface control in the main window and the editor window. DevExpress
controls are used instead of TB2K/TBX/SpTBX.
[!] New way of handling the user interface layout configuration. Also, there is
a new file - "userdef.xml", instead of "tbuser.def" previously used
[+] Possibility of recording and logging of the time it takes to open the
following configuration dialogs: "Account Properties", "Folder Properties",
"Sorting Offices / Filters", and the following windows: message editor, the
folder view. The time is measured if the following command-line parameters are
used to run The Bat!: "/BENCHMARK_STARTUP_TIME" and/or "/STARTUP_TIMING_LOG".
With the "/STARTUP_TIMING_LOG" option only, the results will only be saved to
the ex_log.file, while with "/BENCHMARK_STARTUP_TIME" they will be displayed on
the screen as a message dialog.
[+] Updated spell checker dictionaries (Hunspell) for the following languages:
Danish, Dutch, English (British), English (U.S.), French, Greek, Hungarian,
Latvian, Polish, Portuguese (Brasil), Portuguese (Portual), Romanian, Spansh,
Swedish
[*] Removed PGP internal implementation (RFC-1991) from The Bat!
[*] There is now a random delay before sending the TLS alert code to a remote
computer in order to prevent eventual timing attacks
[*] The Preferences dialog now has an hourglass when it opens
[-] (#427) Tab order was wrong in some dialogs, e.g. in the Create Mail
Filter dialog box
[-] (#0001327) Access Violation errors on exit have been eliminated
[-] (#0001545) Email was added twice to the "To:" line if the address entry in
the address book contained multiple addresses
[-] (#0001662) Incorrect rendering of certain HTML messages has been resolved
[-] (#0001718) An issue with an option during the address book import has been
