I was using the Icon located in the start menu of Windows XP. I
deleted that ICON and create a new short cut on the desk top. Now the
graphic fading problem has stopped.
Strange.

I have loaded the most recent pre-beta on my test machine. It loads
and operates. One of the real challenges is when I right click a
message, the resulting menu is very faint. It looks like it is trying
to fade into sight.
