Into the mobile Future

2013-07-02 Thread Joerg Schiermeier
Hi list, hello TB-developers!

Did you get the last numbers about new trends in personal computing?
The number of produced PCs is dramatically decreasing. The major operating
system on PCs was indeed the Windows OS.
But if this trend keeps on, other operating systems will get more impact.
There is Microsoft's goal to get into this market, but in this moment
Android is the most used system on mobile devices. And Android isn't based
on Windows. It is Linux.

So you Ritlabs developer guys: when will you start to develop a Linux based
version of The Bat!?

I hope you didn't miss this point of view.

Desktops and laptops are unlikely to go anywhere, at least in the
business world - there are things you simply can't do with just a
touchscreen. Also, a Linux version of The Bat would not help with
Android at all - while it uses the Linux kernel, that's the only thing
it has in common with regular Linux distributions, so writing a Linux
e-mail client wouldn't get you anywhere near Android.

Ideal goals grow faster than the means of attaining new goals allow.

Of course there is a huge trend towards mobile devices - only today I
read an article about mobile first. It said that the younger
generation both in developed and developing countries access the
internet via a mobile device before they even get their first
computer, and of course the mobile market is growing.

K-9 is not the only email client for Android phones, but it's the one
I'm using. I would say TB! has a (growing) market there.

Alas, it is up to them.
