Hello Peter & other TBTech members following this thread, On Monday, January 12, 2004, Peter responded to my asking:
PP> [MailMan] DH>> Does this make a difference in relation using BatPost or ADR? PP> Yes. The most significant one would be: using "their" MailMan PP> you send /one/ message to /one/ address (the lists address). The PP> rest is done in a 100MBit-or-More network. On their servers. PP> ...you'll not want to use anything running on your PP> PC nor on your side of the line. PP> Do yourself a favour: Use "their" MailMan. Done. (Decided). That makes sense. PP> Administration is relative easy and initial subscription can be done PP> via SSH (so not everybody needs to subscribe manually if you already PP> have a list of addresses). A number of people have written asking to be inscribed at the point the list becomes operative. Others are expected to subscribe later; via either the website or email. PP> Administration is relative easy and initial subscription can be done PP> via SSH (so not everybody needs to subscribe manually if you already PP> have a list of addresses). A number of people have written asking to be inscribed at the point the list becomes operative, so I'll have to learn about using SSH. I'll still need to mount a web site with subscription pages, explanatory statements and archives, so this is the next area I could sure use some help with, defining the issues and options. For instance: Pipermail, Hypermail and MHonArc have been mentioned in relation to web based archive generation (converting mail to html). Any further comments regarding these and other options would be appreciated. I also want to thank Marc, Mrten, tb at kaishaku.org and Marck for their helpful suggestions and comments (2 of them off list), which can be applied on another occasion (using my own servers and dedicated line). -- TIA Douglas PP> Using ADR or BatPost you'd send: PP> - either one message per list member PP> - or one message with one BCC entry per list member PP> Both time the send process will definitely take longer than when using PP> an "external" MailMan. And it will block your line during this. And PP> this it will happen for /every/ message a list member posts. PP> If you have a significant number of members, want bounce PP> checking and not block your line and keep it opened only because PP> one foreign mail server responds slowly you'll not want to use PP> anything running on your PC nor on your side of the line. ________________________________________________________ http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
