Thanks for clarifying. After a bit more experimentation, I discovered
these didn't show in all exported messages. The ones that had the
characters in them were several years old and had been through the
export/import wringer a few times. A couple of years ago, while
experimenting with Linux on my desktop, I tried out several mail
clients. I suspect those older messages that had gotten
imported/exported a few times picked up these characters somewhere along
that process. At any rate, they don't display when viewing in TB (or
Mozilla Mail), only in the exported mbox formatted messages. As long as
they don't display again if I ever need to import them in the future, it
will be ok.
