I had a similar problem where I was using a folder on my server and had set it to be 'offline' so it would be available always (on my laptop). It would take over 2 minutes to end in the Task Manager. I wrote about it (Nov 7, 2004). Received some replies but nothing that helped the situation. I gave up and put the files locally. Now I do a nightly backup for security.
