Last night Deryk and I sat down and worked out a few strategies. We
decided that a LISP style adaptive scorer would not easily work for
this application so we adapted the /. and k5 style scoring. Altough
designed for web based forums I think they can be adapted for mail.

The main list server would be set up so that on receipt of a message
an external program would be called. This external program would add
the message id to a SQL/Oracle database and give it a score of 0.

Anyone receiving the message within one hour of it being created would
be allowed to give it a score (this of course would involve
modifications to the bat. Or an external program being called). After
the hour is up the score can not be altered. When a score update is
called a section of TB! or an external program would query the
SQL/Oracle database and return the final scores. These could be added
as an extra column to the message window.

At the moment this would be quite difficult. However, if V2 really
does have plugin support it should be quite easy providing I can find
someone to host the dBase.

This idea still needs some work on ideas such as security, amount of
points a user can give to a single article and number of points
available per day.

If the dBase was coupled with a member reg system we could see the
accumulated points of each member. Once a member has so many points
all their posts are marked up one point automatically. TB! could then
be configured for selective download, e.g. don't download mails with a
score lower than 3.
