I started leaving messages on the server about one year ago
On the subject of leaving messages on server when downloaded by POP, I
have The Bat! set to delete messages from server after 5 days. This
works fine with other email providers I use. But google's POP settings
muck it

How is that not as expected? That is what it does. I understand why
you might leave them on the server so others can get them but that
sort of defeats the purpose.
