Hello all! I have a strange problem for a long time. And I don't know how to solve it. I have hidden message header by default. Hello Mary and others following this thread, In response to the message Mary Bull sent regarding Time to Upgrade (Was: One caveat about Folder View Settings in v. 2.11.02 [was Re: Time to Upgrade?]) Thanks for the note re the v. 2.12 release. As you'd said earlier, it was about to be released. DH These are undoubtedly Moldavian terms g. MB No. PCWSmileys are a feature that Leif had the help of 9Val to work MB out, and I was among a half dozen or so early beta testers on them, MB which soon mushroomed to many dozens, as the interest in using these MB increased--most of the use being on tbot. MB The term Roguemoticon is from Dierk, who offered it as the name for MB the new pictures for use in signatures that Leif also wrote the code MB for, based on 9Val's original Smiley code, as I understand it. MB The RitLabs programmers have now modified that code such that the MB Roguemoticons appear (as a user's option) in the headers. MB Note: I changed the subject line (which you changed back) to MB conform to the recently given Moderator request to make subject MB lines as specific as possible MB Allie had recently (just yesterday) reprimanded a friend of mine on MB this list for just such a catch-all subject as yours, when the MB discussion turned to a specific part. Maybe he needs you to remind him to reprimand me. (But since he participated in this thread with Time to Upgrade as the subject, maybe his understanding of the subject subject is similar to mine). MB I was addressing a specific part, an annoying folder view settings MB behavior, that I understood, from reading the tbbeta list, had been MB cured in a beta release. You sure did, within the context of the subject I posted. Your focusing on one aspect of it didn't change that. MB Full release v. 2.12 has just been announced as out this evening. You MB might like to go to the RitLabs site and read about it. Re[4]: Spaces After Periods
I always thought it was two after a full stop, and one everywhere else. Depends on the 'typing school'. In the days of non-proportional, i.e: fixed width, fonts it was deemed better to place two spaces after full-stops (periods). This however looks ugly in the days of proportional fonts. Thus one space is recommended in that situation. Since some email clients and some users of adjustable email clients set the email to be displayed in fixed width font (usually people who like ASCII art signatures) (??!) then they are getting one space in the situation that started this thread. Typographically, the white space should be kept to a minimum in close type - so I am happy with one space always. -- Marten Gallagher Annery Kiln Web Design www.annerykiln.co.uk Using The Bat! 2.11.02 with POPFile 0.21.1 on Windows XP 5.1 Current version is 2.12.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

X-Rogue header is better than roguemoticon in signature
Hallo TBUDL, A new version of TB was released among us. It supports Roguemoticons (for more info see: http://www.pcwize.com/thebat/rogues.php ) and loads of extra smileys. As I prefer my smileys the old fashioned way, I'm not that enthusiastic about the additional smileys, but I do like the roguemoticons. It's nice to see your contact's face in the header. However, as I'm a plain text type and don't use the RTV except for testing purposes, I'd prefer everybody placing their roguemoticon in the X-Rogue: header and not in the signature, since the latter won't show when you're using the plain text viewer. Okay, how do you insert the X-Rogue: header? You can do that with this macro: %SetHeader(X-Rogue,:your_handle:)%- in your templates for this and other tb-lists. However, only the macro won't do the trick. TB'll say: 'Hey, that's no RFC822 header', so you'll have to define it as such: Options - Preferences - Messages - Message headers - 'Add' Now you'll get a pop-up to define the header Display as: X-Rogue (or whatever, it isn't very important) RFC header: X-Rogue Uncheck: 'This field is an address list' (because it isn't) Check: 'Allow this field to be edited in the message editor' Uncheck: 'Display this field in the scrollable part of the header pane' Now you're done and every TB-user can see your lovable face when (s)he's installed the roguemoticons. And now I end this message with the plead to everyone to add their face to the roguemoticon gallery and add an X-Rogue: header. A copy of this message will be sent to tbot. -- Groetjes, Roelof Disclaimer: Any opinion stated in this message is not necessarily shared by my budgies or rabbits. Another problem is that with every basic guideline there can be valid exceptions. Time to upgrade? ... this subject seems to be about the asking of a question of whether or not it's time to upgrade TB!. This is what Douglas discussed. There's nothing really to break down or specify in the subject especially since he really didn't have anything specific to discuss on the matter. So it can stand by itself and be adequate. We know that such a thread will likely involve brief mention or explanations of new features. Of course, if a sub-thread begins focusing on a particular issue, then fine, change the subject, but our threshholds tend to be different. I don't usually change the subject until the 2nd message that is focusing on a new subject. If I abruptly change the topic, then I start a new thread. IOW's exercise judgement. Now, things may not go smoothly because of a variety of reasons. We are all different, with different opinions, temperaments and thresh-holds etc. I plan to moderate only those subjects that IMO, fall significantly short of adequately reflecting what the discussion is about. Douglas seems sensitive about subject hijacking. This is a side of Douglas we'll have to get along with or come to terms with. You change the subject and he changes it back. Hello Mary and others following this thread, In response to the message Mary Bull sent to Allie on 14/07/2004 regarding Changing the Subject Header (sent with a Subject Header Time to Upgrade (Was: One caveat about Folder View Settings in v. 2.11.02 [was Re: Time to Upgrade?]) Since the focus is no longer on whether it's Time to Upgrade (to v. 2.x, which in fact, isn't even mentioned in either post), _NOW is the time to Change the Subject Header_. I'm not really in favour of typing two spaces after a period. (What's the difference between a period and a dot?) Just because some schools in the states taught that, doesn't mean it was general accepted practice. Even I am old enough to have learned typing before the computer age. I was taught to type one space after any kind of punctuation. Maybe that's Dutch or European. I don't know. I also was taught to start a new paragraph with four spaces. One of the other things those poor people tried to hammer in me was that when writing a letter to the states (I guess that should be capitalized)I should place the address on the wrong side of the letter. All of those conventions should not be optional. Just forget about them, just remember that when they're making one option, they should implement the others too. You'd get check boxes for one space, after a period, two spaces, three. One space after a comma, two spaces. And of of those other conventions. So please no options. When to change subjects within an ongoing thread (Was: Re: Time to Upgrade)
Mary Bull, [MB] wrote: Sorry for the delay in conversation. We had a little weather here overnight and real life took my attention for awhile here. That's no problem. We all have to live in and around these lists. Your advice is much appreciated. If you don't mind having one more post about this, and don't mind to reply, how soon should this discussion of Subject: guidelines have its thread changed? Just taking it for an example. I've elected to change the subject of my reply to you because none of what I'm discussing has anything to do with upgrading from v1.6 to v2. None of what I discuss here would influence someone interested in a discussion looking at that question. We're now discussing when to change the subject for a message in an ongoing thread as well as the circumstances surrounding this change of subject. The same goes for your message (the one I'm now replying to) since it really has nothing to do with the original query Douglas made. My general rule is to ask myself when replying to a message in a thread, Is this message related to the topic being discussed? Does it contribute to the original query? Let's look at the time you originally chose to change the subject. This was in message mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] . In that message you were pretty much on topic. You first mentioned that v2 was stable for you, a core concern with Douglas' issue on whether or not he should upgrade. You went on to mention an annoying bug and mentioning this bug was directly related to answering his qestion about the problems that currently existed with v2 which in turn would influence his decision to upgrade or not. IOW's, the essence of your response revolved around his question. I didn't really see a need to change the subject. I don't mean to be facetious--I'm entirely serious about these questions. I was, to speak boldly and frankly, appalled at the way Maggie wrote to you in regard to your Mod post to her. I consider her a friend, as I do you, and so I made no comment to either of you, publicly or privately at the time. Ok. Parent: Teacher, my child is sensitive. If he misbehaves, just slap the child next to him, and he'll get the message. The public trouting is based on this principle. If a member sees another member being moderated, they'll take note of what provoked the moderator's interjection and avoid doing the same. You know, I think my best course will be to change no subject lines and wait for you to appear in your Mod hat. Take whatever course you like Mary. I mean that in a gentle way. :) If you prefer a wait and see approach then that's ok. I'm not here to have you standing and wondering what to do. You changed a subject and Douglas changed it back. You didn't find it unreasonable to change it while he did. But don't these disagreements happen all the time? I can't really prevent this sort of thing from happening since we all don't think the same. I don't think this issue, contrary to what you have said, and I say this most respectfully, is between me and Douglas alone. Your subject change, an attempt to obey list rules isn't worthy of a :trout:. It's worthy of commendation. Douglas' opinion that you inappropriately changed the subject is not at all a breach of rules. I do agree with him in this instance that the subject didn't have to be changed. He proceeds to change it back. I doubt I'd have done it that way but you know, we all tend to do some things differently. He directly challenged me as to your Moderator's ruling. He implied that I was infringing on your role. I didn't really see this. Any further discussion about this particular point, I'd prefer off-list. I'm sensitive to my own feelings that I certainly do not want to move in on your territory. You didn't. You will just have to watch out for me. Autoformat leaves those extra spaces after periods.
Hi all, Just for those who wish to preserve those extra spaces after periods. Though Alt-L will remove them when reflowing text, Autoformat will not. Toggle on auto-format and try it, i.e., CTRL+Shift+F. The thing with autoformat is that it will reflow to perfection any text that isn't completely separated by an extra line. As a result you can't do this with autoformat enabled. :) When I need to do that I toggle it off. -- -=[ Allie Martin ]=- List Moderator and fellow end-user PGPKeys: http://key.ac-martin.com pgpN4RIvan78p.pgp Description: PGP signature Current version is 2.12.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Running 3rd Party Software with TB!
Hello users, I'm just wondering if this it at all possible? When I open TB!, can I also trigger a 3rd party program to run at the same time (maybe via a script or something)? For example, I would only like to run a proxy anti-spam program when I open TB! What would be even better, is being able to close a program at the same time as TB!, or am I just asking too much now!? ;-) -- Regards, Chris Created using The Bat! v2.12.00 on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 1 Current version is 2.12.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

I really haven't changed my filters for months but just started to fool around again. I will tell you that between 175-300 pieces of email end up in my junk folder daily. And only rarely do I get a false/positive. And almost *never* do I find a piece of junk mail in my inbox. This was not my experience with Bayesit filtration I subjected my filters to thousands of pieces of spam. Note that I let TB do the counting, I didn't count the messages myself. Anyhow, if you still think the total is one off, I'd suggest that you delete the messages.tbb and .tbi files for that folder.
