Attachments not deleted with messages

2013-11-18 Thread Chris Wilson

18 November 2013

I have thought my Attachments directory was huge, and I spotted
several .jpg files in it that should have been deleted when I deleted
the parent messages. I just did a test and sent a mail to myself with
an image attached. I deleted the message and then emptied the Trash
folder. The image has not been deleted from the Attachments folder,
even after closing and re-opening TB! Tried this several times,
attachments not deleted...

This is how the properties are set:

Lost draft

2013-11-18 Thread Leonard S. Berkowitz
When I compose an e-mail note and close it without sending it, I am
prompted to save it or not.

If I save it, it goes to the Outbox. If I choose not to save it, it is
gone. Fair enough.

However if I open a message in the Outbox to continue editing, and
choose not to save it, the original message in the Outbox disappears
also. Not fair. Why is does the original disappear also? It ought to
go to Trash.

I worked for an hour or so writing a message and saved it. After a
brief addition, in haste I did not save it. I lost it all.

Ouch!

Thanks.

A! That may be the reason, that your message was

Yes. I just thought my filters or templates were playing up, and
adjusted the To adress of my replies manually.

OK, that explains it. At first I thought it was my filters playing up.
Thanks.

Hello Stuart,

 Another issue.

I keep two complete copies of the TB mailing lists. One is a POP
account and the other is an IMAP account. (I do this for testing
purposes). The POP account kept the whole thread together despite my
missing message. The IMAP account which uses the same View mode split
 them into two threads.

No idea of what the reason may be, I don't use any IMAP accounts.

Before I do so would someone storing messages in a separate directory
please see if they see the same? I thought it may be keeping a copy of
the attachment because *I* sent it, which would make sense as it
should also show in the sent mail folder, but I have also tried
deleting some messages from other people just sent to myself, with
attachments. The attachments are not deleted. I see a security issue
here, what if my wife finds these photos of my mistress, for example,
that I thought I'd deleted VBG et cetera, et cetera

The bind outgoing blah blah tick box makes no difference either, I am
not sure exactly what that's supposed to change.

Thanks.

Hello Leonard,

No, it ought to stay in Outbox as a Parked (Draft) message, like it does
in my case. I've been doing further testing and even if I unpark the
message in Outbox before opening it for edit, if I don't save the edited
version the original stays in Outbox and it is parked again.

Are you using IMAP? In my case I'm doing this with POP accounts, I don't
know if there may be any difference with IMAP.

Hmm, no wonder my attachments folder is so big, many years of
deleting messages and assuming any attachment was deleted too is
proven wrong! It should be documented better as allowing a free choice
of folder name and siting makes a user think it doesn't matter...

Off to look for incriminating attachments now :)

Roguemoticons/Smileys

2013-11-18 Thread Jack S. LaRosa
Hello TBUD Listers,

Well, it's happened again. Several months ago (after a TB upgrade IIRC)
roguemoticons and smileys stopped working. This failure has finally reached the
point of annoyance where I feel the need to do something about it. I scoured
the archives for about an hour looking for past correspondence (including my
own) relating to this problem as I had this same problem in the past. I've
confirmed settings mentioned in the archives but still no luck.

If I send myself a message containing :-) it DOES show up as a smiley face.
However, if I send myself a message containing  it simply shows up as
COLONbananaCOLON. I think this corresponds to my no longer seeing country flags
in others messages.

Additionally, roguemoticons refuse to appear when it is obvious that the sender
has included his/her X-rouge jpg. My ROGUES folder is contained here:
C:\Program
Files (x86)\The Bat!\Images\Rogues and the ROGUES folder does contain images.

In a previous message Miguel (MAU) was kind enough to send these links to TB
settings for all this stuff:

mid:614545132.20120527094...@gmail.com
mid:1174891126.20120528115...@gmail.com
mid:1573422883.20120528172...@gmail.com
mid:1917951124.20120529193...@gmail.com

but I don't know how to access the links.

So, I tried everything I could think of so that I wouldn't have to bother the
list again but... well, you know.

On combing my other accounts one more time - I found mine in the
sent folder of my isp account (POP).

I'm guessing that would be a filter issue, though ... still, I
closed the thing, didn't send or save it, so it shouldn't have
turned up in the outbox of a totally different account.

Guess my caution in rebuilding filters is not misplaced :-/

So basic smileys like :-) work for you, but pcwsmileys like
don't.

Does your %ProgramFiles%\The Bat!\Images folder contain a text file
called pcwsmileys.msl as well as a folder called pcwimages (and
does that folder called pcwimages contain banana.sml.gif and over
500 other image files)?

Additionally, roguemoticons refuse to appear when it is

Does the Images folder contain the rogues.msl file as well as
containing the Rogues folder?

There's not an extra level of folders like last year? (See
mid:1391391137.20120605095...@charter.net)

From right-clicking the message headers, hovering over Sender Photo
in the context menu, is there a tick by Display sender and no tick
by Prefer photo from Address Book? (I know you said you already
checked, but are you sure?)

In a previous message Miguel (MAU) was kind enough to
send these links to TB settings for all this stuff:

 mid:614545132.20120527094...@gmail.com
 mid:1174891126.20120528115...@gmail.com
 mid:1573422883.20120528172...@gmail.com
 mid:1917951124.20120529193...@gmail.com

but I don't know how to access the links.

Those are links to messages on TBUDL from late May 2012, with some of
the numbers replaced by dots. The full message-ids are:-

mid:614545132.20120527094...@gmail.com
mid:1174891126.20120528115...@gmail.com
mid:1573422883.20120528172...@gmail.com
mid:1917951124.20120529193...@gmail.com

Just click (or maybe double-click) and the message will open, if TB!
can find it.

So, I tried everything I could think of so that I
wouldn't have to bother the list again but... well, you
 know.

And I've not suggested anything that was not in the archives from last
year. Rogues and pcwsmileys not working when basic smileys being fine
would suggest to look carefully at the contents of your
%ProgramFiles%\The Bat!\Images folder before ploughing too deeply
into settings. Of course, I may be talking complete rubbish.
