If you can print at all, there has to be a template (AFAIK). Look
under Account/Properties/Templates.

However, in both cases, it seems to be printing as a graphic
(takes forever) so now I'm wondering whether I had picked a very
long msg the system was just overwhelmed by the process...

It doesn't take too long on mine?! I can't see why the message should
be defined as a graphic and then printed; that would only bring
advantages, IMO, with PS printers.

Does anyone know what printing scheme TB! uses?

Hi JOANNE,

JV Next row, I see the word 'TO'(above the word 'Subject')...and at the
JV end of that bar are 3 little option boxes.

JV ***this is where I am unable to view any address book..the 3rd

JV The first has a black scroll down arrow (view history). Next, I see
JV a blue arrow pointing towards the right. It is to 'add to the
JV address book', but there is no + sign here.

Maybe this sounds stupid, but why should there be a + sign? Anyway, I
don't think that this has something to do with your problems.

JV I can R click on it, and a drop down menu appears. In addition to
JV the words UNDO, CUT, COPY, PASTE, SELECT ALL, I see a partial
JV address book.

This is the usual context menu for those fields. UNDO, CUT, COPY, PASTE,
SELECT ALL are used to edit text already entered in those fields. What
you call a partial address book is the list of you favourite addresses.
That is, all the addresses you marked as favourites in your AB can be
accessed there (and also by the little black arrow next to the new mail
button, BTW).

JV If I SELECT ALL, it does not select all.

It does, if you enter some text there first. It is *not* intended to
'select all' your favourites as recipients for this message.

JV Now the 3rd square has the address book icon. If I R click on it, I
JV get the same thing I did when I R click on the blue arrow just
JV mentioned.

See above, the context menu for the whole field and the 3 buttons at the
end is the same.

JV But a L click brings up a window with the blue bar at the top.

Fine, this is what is supposed to happen.

JV It says 'Pick E-mail addresses' and it opens up an empty address
JV book. (it should say 'intermediate').

OK, so you don't see any entries you could select. Where it should say
'intermediate', what does it read instead? Can you click on the
downarrow next to that field where you expect 'intermediate' and select
the appropriate AB?

JV I also see TO/CC/BCC, but there are no names that are
JV highlightable...or available to select. No,I do not see a + sign,
JV only the hot tip when the cursors rests over the blue arrow box.

I suspect that your problem has something to do with the newly added
possibility to select a default address book for an account. Go to your
account properties and select your 'intermediate' AB as the default for
this account. Does that change anything?

JV Does that help?

Yes. This is the correct place. Now, just underneath the 'Pick E-mail
addresses' caption is a box with a black down-pointing arrow at the
right hand side. This allows you to choose which area of the address
book to look in for addresses. L-click on the down arrow and choose
Personal address book or one of the Groups within it. The larger
panel beneath that box fills with all available email addresses from
the selected section.

Double click on names to add them to the list of names in the
currently selected tab on the right hand side of the window (To, CC or
BCC). Use the '' and '' buttons to move single addresses in and out
of the lists and the '' and '' button to move all addresses.

I think that the problem is that you haven't got a valid address book
section selected and thus can't see any names as yet.
- -8-

Also you should carefully check the default address book selected in
Account | Properties | General as Lars suggested.

ACM With the use of filters, yes. However, you'd still have to create the
ACM seven accounts you mentioned and you'll have to create filters for all the
ACM accounts to move the messages to the desired folders in the main account
ACM you wish to work. Not a very good solution if it involves so many
ACM accounts.

Thanks (to you and two others) for the suggestion. I've been working
on implementing this, and had hoped that I could have one filter for
Incoming mail in each of the secondary accounts which would simply
move the mail to the Inbox of the primary account. Then, I'd have
filters for the Incoming mail in the primary account that would put
the mail in the specific folders. That way, I'd only have to put in
one set of the 15 or so filters I need, since there doesn't seem to be
any way to copy filters from one account to another. But this doesn't
work, either. Even if I check the continue filtering option in the
filter in the secondary accounts, the filters in the primary
account aren't activated by the appearance of the mail in the Inbox.
The only way I can get the filters to work is to manually apply them
over and over again. Am I stuck with having to create a copy of all
those filters in each account? Thanks again...

Re[2]: TB! V1.53d - printing difficulty

2001-06-28 Thread JOANNE VIRANT

Hello Marck,

Bingo, Boys! Now I really know we are making progress. When I go to
acct properties to select the default address book, my only option is
*default*. How do I change it so that I can select my intermediate
adb? I thought I'd clicked on everything, but obviously not.

JV I am replying to you from the now reinstalled 1.53, which still is
JV not giving me the address book where I need it. I agree with all
JV you wrote and understand. And I am very happy that no one else has
JV my problem, because it makes me confident we can figure this out.

MDP We can. I feel it in my bones ;-).

JV ... Now the 3rd square has the address book icon. If I R click on
JV it, I get the same thing I did when I R click on the blue arrow
JV just mentioned. But a L click brings up a window with the blue bar
JV at the top. It says 'Pick E-mail addresses' and it opens up an
JV empty address book. I also see TO/CC/BCC, but there are no names
JV that are highlightable...or available to select.

MDP snip ok, favorites..got it

JV Does that help?

MDP Yes. This is the correct place. Now, just underneath the 'Pick E-mail
MDP addresses' caption is a box with a black down-pointing arrow at the
MDP right hand side. This allows you to choose which area of the address
MDP book to look in for addresses. L-click on the down arrow and choose
MDP Personal address book or one of the Groups within it. The larger
MDP panel beneath that box fills with all available email addresses from
MDP the selected section.

No. L ro R click, makes no difference. There are no names of adb to
select from.

MDP Double click on names to add them to the list of names in the
MDP currently selected tab on the right hand side of the window (To, CC or
MDP BCC). Use the '' and '' buttons to move single addresses in and out
MDP of the lists and the '' and '' button to move all addresses.

MDP I think that the problem is that you haven't got a valid address book
MDP section selected and thus can't see any names as yet.

yes. I agree

MDP Also you should carefully check the default address book selected in
MDP Account | Properties | General as Lars suggested.

What I have done is made new address books, and copied from the

to view the Intermediate adb is still not coming up as an option,)by
making new adb, I am able to use it how I would like to now. Thank you
all for all your help.

Bat Cannot Download E-Mail

2001-06-28 Thread i a n - e d i b l e

Hello All,

The Bat has recently stopped being able to collect my mail. I changed my POP3 password via Telnet to my University servers a few days ago. When I try to collect my mail, the bat remembers my old e-mail password, and when I put the new one in and click update account tickbox, i just cannot connect. My log shows:

*28/06/2001, 19:02:16: FETCH - receiving mail messages
+28/06/2001, 19:02:17: FETCH - connected to POP3 server
!28/06/2001, 19:02:27: FETCH - Server reports error. The response is: -ERR [AUTH] Password supplied for smgxian is incorrect.
!28/06/2001, 19:02:37: FETCH - Connection to host broken (last commands sent were: USER smgxian, PASS)
+28/06/2001, 19:02:37: FETCH - connection finished - 0 messages received

In older versions of the Bat, there were options in the Account settings to allow one to turn on or off remembering of the password which has gone in the newer version. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get the Bat back working??? Other mail clients are having no problem.

Ian

In Account | Properties | Transport | Receive mail press the
Authenitcation button and (temporarily) turn on the Do not store
password, prompt on mail retrieval switch. At the next mail check,
enter you new password then you can safely turn the switch back off
again.

That should fix it.

I wouldn't say that! Poco, for instance, writes in HTML and breaks the
list rules! Then the reply text from your Poco message needs manual
coaxing into any semblance of legibility because of all of the missing
spaces at the ends of the formatted lines.

Please use a more recipient-friendly email client next time you're let

in TB!, the AB for Intermediate Certificates (for S/MIME purposes).

Is that the same as your Intermediate, or is it just coincidence
that one of your AB's is called such?

I can't test your problem according to my supposition because I
deleted the certificate's AB's some time ago, as I don't need them.

Hello Marck,

Before I started using The Bat! (my absolute favorite mail client, by the
way), I used both Poco and Calypso. Both, while having the capability of
composing with HTML, also have the capability to *turn off* the offending
HTML.

A new version of Poco was just released (v2.5), and since I was involved
in the beta testing, some of the things I've learned by using TB! are
slowly seeping into Pocomail's (new name) plain text editor (some text
formatting options, etc.) Poco's author is very receptive to users wishes,
and is always improving Poco. I told him that I had switched to TB! - and
why. He continued to work with me to improve Poco's text editor - based on
my experiences with TB! That said, for my needs, it's still got a ways to
go, and is still no TB!

Some mail - even plain text - that I receive from some Calypso users also
does strange things when viewed in TB! (like running off the edge of the
screen when quoted in a reply - requiring Alt-l to clean it up). For the
most part, I do feel that it's caused more by the sender's particular use
of formatting options (or lack thereof) than by the originating mail
client itself. I think.

But then, there's another kind of strange thing I've noticed between
Calypso and TB!...

If I open up an old mail I composed in Calypso (I always composed and
displayed only plain text in Calypso), and copy/paste it into my TB!
message editor, all line wrapping that was in the original Calypso message
will be gone, and will require TB!'s Alt-l treatment (I love Alt-l!).
Otherwise, it runs off the screen in one very long line.

What I don't understand in this last example is that both are dealing,
supposedly, with the very same character set and encoding (us-ascii,
7-bit). Any ideas as to why the un-formatting happens when copy/pasting
from Calypso into TB!?

Speaking of the ol' Alt-L, has anyone ever specified whether it's a

I'm asking because the ability to point, click, and then hit a mouse

You got me perfectly. It should also be taken as a jocular attempt to
point out a) the rules of the list and b) why they are so.

Hi Melissa,

On 28 June 2001 at 12:36:41 -0700 (which was 20:36 where I live)
Melissa Reese wrote to Marck D Pearlstone and made these points:

MR What I don't understand in this last example is that both are
MR dealing, supposedly, with the very same character set and encoding
MR (us-ascii, 7-bit). Any ideas as to why the un-formatting happens
MR when copy/pasting from Calypso into TB!?

I can only assume that this is because Calypso did not use line breaks
but simply relied on re-wrapping the text for display at every
viewing. IMHO this is where TB scores big time in that What You See Is
*exactly* What You Get.

Re: AB trouble TB! V1.53d

2001-06-28 Thread JOANNE VIRANT

Hello Dierk,
Yes, it is the pre-configured AB that was already there when I
downloaded TB. I would appreciate an explanation why I was not able
to use this one. What is meant by *Intermediate Certificates (for
S/MIME purposes)*

What I have done is made new address books, and copied from the
 intermediate book.

DH Something was troubling me all the time: You always wrote of an AB
DH called Intermediate. Well, there is an Intermediate pre-configured
DH in TB!, the AB for Intermediate Certificates (for S/MIME purposes).

DH Is that the same as your Intermediate, or is it just coincidence
DH that one of your AB's is called such?

DH I can't test your problem according to my supposition because I
DH deleted the certificate's AB's some time ago, as I don't need them.

Greetings,

I am very new and have been readin the posts for the last two days in
an attempt to get a feel for TB. I have downloaded and installed it
today. Finding my way around it may take a little while as well as
learning the uniqueness of it.

Is there any soure of a manual or guide for TB? Maybe a dumb ?!

I will keep on monitoring your posts and ad a few of my own over
time.

Re:error message Exception Eaccess Violation 7FB20524

2001-06-28 Thread JOANNE VIRANT

Ever since downloading TB 1.53, I get this error message that pops up
off and on, and crashes me. I can be in the middle of just reading
emails or replying, and a window pops up ***Exception Eaccess Violation
in module theBAT.exe@7FB20524. Access violation at address 7FF21768.
Read of address 7FF21768***. Then, if I try to click the x in upper
right corner, to make the message go away, all the error window does
is scootch down and to the right a tad, each time I click on the x.
Eventually, obviously, I reach the lower right corner of my screen and
all my programs close and I am back at my desktop.
Can anyone enlighten me as to why this is happening and how do I get
rid of the problem? Thank you.
