Why am I finding BayesIt so difficult?

2005-02-17 Thread Barry
Hi

Well, this is my 3rd and last attempt to get BayesIt to work. I guess I've
wasted enough time with it now.

I removed all traces of BayesIt from my install 'cos it just wasn't
working, despite it having over 1,000 spam mails to train on which I had
downloaded from TheBatWorld web site. I reckoned that these along with my
1500 good emails was enough training material for anyone!

Having a clean install I now find that BayesIt is complaining that the
dictionaries are either corrupt or not there.

Well its right on that one; they aren't there!

But surely on a new install Bayesit should create two blank dictionaries?

So what gives?

At the moment I have reinstalled, tried to train with 1000 Spams and 1500
good mails, but Bayesit complains that there are no dictionaries.

Any suggestions most gratefully received.

Hi Roelof

Yes I did, and that's what I'm finding so frustrating. I think I am doing
everything as I should but it just doesn't want to work.

The first time I was told by Marck that there wasn't enough spam in the
dictionary for it to work. OK, I accepted that that was why the mails were
only getting a score of 0.

The second time I came across the BatWorld spam message files so I tried
them that gave me over a 1000 spam mails plus over a 1000 of my own good
mails to train it with.

Then everything was being scored 99!

I don't like being beaten so I decided to try again with a clean install
but now I don't appear to have any dictionaries.

Also have a look at Spambayes. I switched to it after having a lot or problems
with BayesIT and/or spammails were not flagged as such, even after a
considerable training. The so called Nigeria emails were never flagged while
with Spambayes I trained it with just 5 Nigeria emails and never another

RA I'll look at it again then.

Will you let us know when you have uploaded the new version?

RA Well, it is not fixed, it is a parameter that you can change called
RA %_GAR_Default. It is not particularly easy to set a QT up to meet
RA everyone's requirements, but I included a section at the beginning
RA of the QT that says:

RA%REM=
RA Adjust the %_GAR_Max and %GAR_Default values in the next lines to
RA suit your needs
RA%-
RA%_GAR_Max=4%-
RA%_GAR_Default=Hi all,%-

RA I haven't done much macro writing for TB! v3, but I think you can
RA provide parameters when you call the QT now.

Maybe you're right. Or, you could just copy it and have a version for
each language... :)

RA That would be another way to do it. I invite anyone who wants to try
RA to incorporate this to update the QT.

It is probably a bit above my ability.

   * Maybe another possible extension could be to also greet people in
the CC field in parentheses - like Hello Bill (Bob, John)?

RA I believe that the convention is one does not directly address the CC
RA list. Certainly that is what I do. So this wouldn't do what I want from
RA the QT.

Yeah, you might be right... :)

Hello TBUDL,

message list displaying in thread view should have the feature to mark

This could also mean to use the flag attribute or some colour group as

Interested?

Hi,

If there are people who both use The Bat! and the Time and

As their adress book format are different, is there nevertheless a way
to synchronize them ?
Do you think a import facility from the bat! of Time and Chaos address book
could be
useful ?
For me, yes, I use this program each day !!! and it would be very
practical to have only one address book, so importing the tc one in

AM For e-mail, I keep e-mail addresses.

I'm a TB!- and TC-user ànd I sync with my Pocket PC. I would love to have
a tool to synchronise my TC and TB! address boooks.

Let's take the case of a To Do item, that ends up with writing an E-mail to a
client. As it is now I have to switch to TB!, select the client in the AB,
and write the message.

If, however, the E-mail address of this client is in the TC AB too, I only
have to click on the (linked) E-mail address and TB! will open a new message.

For this to work, I have to enter the address in TC too, thus doing this
work twice over and over again. I guess that's not exactly the smartest way
to make use of a computer's abilities.

So, once more, yes, please if such a tool would exist, I shouldn't have to
think about setting up a solution through TC's import tool, combined with
PowerPro... :-)

Me. I have a hotkey for creating a new message. I then start typing
the name, autocomplete enters the address. I see what you're saying
though. :)

I don't know if it will make sense holding our breaths for a solution
as elegant as syncing. Outlook and Palm devices enjoy that sort of
thing because of their tremendous userbase which makes the creation of
such plugins a worthwhile effort for the TC developers. I doubt
they'd consider TB! a worthwhile effort at this time, though one never
knows.

I've been forced to use it by my ISP. Since they have it setup to
delete any e-mail it thinks is spam, the filter are not tight at all
and a bunch of junk gets through to me. I hope that I don't loose
anything important, but I have no way a knowing.

the bat! on the fly encryption and tokens

2005-02-17 Thread Claude Renaud
Hi,

As Marek said previously, Tb professional will replace Secure
Bat! nextly.
Until now I used Secure Bat! with Ikey.
Apparently The Bat! pro does not support ikeys currently.
Is it planned in the future or do we need to switches to e-token ?
What are the differences between those two encryptions methods ?
And if we need to switch, how to obtain a new token ?

Both I guess: pro - because it can make use of a token, lite - because it offers
software-based data encryption.
