Fake membership message

2005-09-02 Thread Clive Taylor
I thought I'd share this piece of spam sent to one of my domains that
I received this morning. Look familiar?

---
This is a reminder, sent out once a month, about your
list.stanklos.com mailing list memberships. It includes your
subscription info and how to use it to change it or unsubscribe from a
list.

You can visit the URLs to change your membership status or
configuration, including unsubscribing, setting digest-style delivery
or disabling delivery altogether (e.g., for a vacation), and so on.

In addition to the URL interfaces, you can also use email to make such
changes. For more info, send a message to the '-request' address of
the list (for example, [EMAIL PROTECTED]) containing
just the word 'help' in the message body, and an email message will be
sent to you with instructions.

If you have questions, problems, comments, etc, send them to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks!

TB 3.60 won't start!

2005-09-02 Thread Barry
Hi all

This morning I accepted the invitation to upgrade to v3.60

So I've downloaded and installed the new version. I try to run it, I get
the splash screen, then a screen telling me that Bayesit is loading, the a
screen telling me that Bayesit is shutting down, then the TheBat! crashes.

What have I done wrong, other than trying to upgrade?

OK, I've fixed the problem. It seems that the Installer isn't clever enough
to recognise when Bayesit is installed in a different location to standard.
My copy is installed in a folder off my mail folders, NOT in the program

My program files are located in D:\Program Files\The Bat!\

Bayesit is located in D:\The Bat!\Bayesit\

A quick copy and paste of the new Bauesit files sorted it out.

Re[2]: Deleting messages while offline from IMAP Server

2005-09-02 Thread Bodemann , Jörn
Another idea is to let deleted messages in the inbox but do not
display them after they are marked for deletion.

The conventional IMAP method is to strike them through with a red line,
though they remain visible. However, deleting them from visibility could
 also be done.

I like when they remain visible, though marked as deleted. In this way,
if they aren't really deleted from the server, you'll immediately see
this. If they're removed from view, you could have lingering messages on
the server and not realize it. I see this all the time, though TB!, at
some point, seems to get around to deleting the messages.

How can I dow that? I did not find a way to identify deleted messages
in the filter to make the invisible.

I was just proposing how things could be made to work and not how they
work, so currently, you can't have a message disappear from view when
deleting while disconnected from the server.

Yes, it looks familiar, because I receive several variations of this,
all in the same standard format but with different particulars, on the
first of each and every month, for various email lists that I have
subscribed to, that use Mailman, the GNU Mailing List Manager
http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/ to manage their lists.

If you happened to subscribe to an e-list recently, this might be
legit. I do a fair amount of anti-spam work, and have not yet seen any

probably pretty new.

If it claims to be from a domain that exists, and that your wife
actually uses then it should be a simple matter to ascertain whether
it is legitimate or not, by contacting them, and asking them about the
email (assuming that it is not a domain that you administer yourself,
which makes all this mootg).

As Marek Mikus already said, you need the unicode layer for W9x from
Microsoft.

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads and search for unicode, select
Windows 95 (or 98 or ME) as platform. You'll get a single hit for the
search (its an executable, running it is probably enough to install it,
though I don't know for sure).

I hope this fixes the problem for you. Ritlabs should mention that in the
installer for 3.60.

THAT is what has been happening to me and, although I have not been

This list was never able to help me on this issue either... No
reflection on the list membership, it is just something that, if 1) it

I use 2.12.00 too and it happens to me also, although not very often.
The way how I get rid of it I just have explained on this list, in the

any antispam helper but only TB's Selective Download filters for this
purpose, receiving/downloading thus 0% of spam, so those antispam
contraptions shouldn't be an issue for this buggy behavior.
