For what it may be worth, my TB! version (4.0.38, which is now quite elderly) displays the standard plaintext view of messages from "LinkedIn Updates" and "LinkedIn Communication" just fine; some of the messages from "LinkedIn" are displayed properly, while others are shown as blank.
