Jernej, I only tried this on the problematic folder (POP) but as mentioned got stuck. I just tried to do "just" compacting and purge and while this runs through quickly on other folders (even large ones), the problematic folder again has the same issue. The green bar goes to the right to about 90% quickly and then moves very slowly only. Eventually it failed with an alert: "cannotcompressthefolder xxx. Stream rea error " E\TheBatmessages.tbb" The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error". My active database is on another internal drive to be separate from my OS drive and reading about the error, there are some references to hardware or drivers. What I don't understand however is that it only affects one particular folder. If I were to move the active database to my OS drive via options/preferences/system, would thatcreateeverything automatically? I remember I did that once before but would need to look up the procedure for it. Also, if the folder is corrupted, would I have the same issues again? -- Tom using TheBat! 4.2.33.9 on XP Current version is 7.1 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Try selecting just the problematic folder. In my experience, the Maintenance centre gets stuck on IMAP folders, but should process regular folders fairly quickly (I've got folders with more than 10 messages, and it takes a few minutes to process them). -- < Jernej Simončič ><><><><>< http://eternallybored.org/ > One good turn gets most of the blanket. -- Ellenberg's Theory Current version is 7.1 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

The process starts normally but then after going through the first folders quite quickly, it seems to get stuck somewhere in the main one. While the green process bar "pretends" to work, nothing more seems to be happening. The same goes for stopping the process, it does not stop and eventually I need to kill TB via task manager. I suppose even for a folder with 4000 emails it should not take that long? What other options do I have now? At this point I can still use TB and have access to my emails but I am getting nervous that the folder is corrupted and I may lose everything. I do have some backups but I am not sure how long ago the issue first popped up. The original error message re backup is at least 3 weeks old but the process still completed. So while I have a number of backups, I am no longer sure I can rely on them. -- Tom using TheBat! 4.2.33.9 on XP Current version is 7.1 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Sorry, still not getting it. I tried renaming these files but seems that TB is not redoing anything afterwards when I access the folder. Depending on which file I rename, the folder either appears without content or shows 4000 files in the count but nothing in the view window. Only by renaming it to the original name the files fortunately appear back. I take it there is no special command to do the reindexing? -- Tom using TheBat! 4.2.33.9 on XP Current version is 7.1 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
