Assuming you are using POP to download your messages from your Gmail account, within The Bat! go to Account Options | Transport tab | Receive Mail section and add "recent:" (without quotes, and with no space after the colon) to the front of your user name. Gmail should then not download messages more than 30 days old. (Make sure to add it only for the POP settings, not the SMTP.)
