Restoring old mail
Hello, Before the 'you're a dunce' comments start I already know! I have directories on my system with lots of old mail from earlier versions of TB! but these directories are only the MAIL files, the executable and general installation files have been deleted. I have a spanking new (well a couple of monthes old actually) installation of TB! 1.62 xmas edition which I use daily. Now I've always been a bit blase with my mail and haven't done proper TB! administered backups. So now what I want to do is access the mail in the old mail folders. I have looked at Synchronistaion - but that doesn't work because the actual installation files of the old mail have been removed. I have looked at Restore - but that doesn't work because I didn't backup the files with TB!. I have also just tried creating a new account with the relevant name (i.e. the name of the directory of the mail I want to see) and TB! tries its best to read the mail but gets a bit confused - using directory names of existing accounts rather than the ones which are in the new directory. So i want to know is this old mail lost (theres 500mb of it!), corrupted, regainable or what - am i being stupid (still) and if any of the above is true have I learnt my lesson about being a little more careful with my mail archive (yes!). any help would be gratefully appreciated [EMAIL PROTECTED] Current version is 1.62 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

RegExp Question
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi there, I am a new TB user and am trying to get to grips with the powerful REGEXP within templates. I subscribe to a mailing list which always ends it mailings with a non-standard signature. The format of this is as below: - -=-=-=- [ SOME TEXT ] [ SOME MORE TEXT ] I though that it would have been a relatively easy thing to set up but am getting nowhere. I was thinking that the logic for the regexp would be: 1) Take all the text of the message 2) Set everything up to the -=-=-=- as %SUBPATT0 3) Set (-=-=-=-\n\[.*\]\n\[.*\]\n) as %SUBPATT1 You could then set %QUOTES to the output of %SUBPATT0. This is what I came up with: one Line %QUOTES="%SETPATTREGEXP=""(?is)((.*\n)*)(-=-=-=-\n\[.*\]\n\[.*\]\n)""% REGEXPBLINDMATCH=""%TEXT""%SUBPATT=""0""" /one line This, however, gives me two copies of the text both with the footer/signature in it ! Eudora conversion glitch
Hi all, I'm planning to convert after years using Eudora. I'm fed up with its regular attempts to call home and report what its been doing. I have hit a bit of a problem with converting my mail boxes though. The conversion wizard doesn't want to play at all. Leaving me with just the convert from UNIX option. This does work except for one problem: - The creation dates of my outgoing messages gets changed. In the Folder view it becomes the date of conversion and in the message headers it becomes 30th December 1899. I do assure you I'm really not that old. :-) Anyone else hit this problem and found a way round it? I'm running Win2K SP2. Message List Columns
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I have just had an emergency reformat and am wading through setting everything up again. I chose to start from scratch with TB! rather than restore from backup as TB! had been *acting up* prior to the format. Anyway, for some reason all my folders have different Message List Column settings. Is there a quick way to set them all the same way (as a default setting) or do I *really* have to do them all individually?! I am no doubt missing something as if one had many folders this could take a while! One other question as I am also re-creating my filters. What do most of you use as the sorting string for incoming TBUDL mail? My current filter is catching most but not all TBUDL mail. Thanks for your help! Prior to finding TB! I trialled Poco for some time and while I really liked it - especially having come to it from Outlook 2000 - once I also began to trial TB! I realised very quickly that TB! was (and is) far superior. If a pretty interface is important to you then yes, Poco has the advantage, but if you are looking for an efficient, highly customizable, powerful email client, TB! meets all those needs and then some. We won't go down the HTML road again as it has been well covered in other threads but for me, HTML is a non issue. I don't want or need it and I certainly don't miss it. What I *do* need is the ability to easily thread messages, set up filters and templates, use an auto responder for my PGP key requests, format tidy and easily readable emails, and have the ability to set up multiple accounts and multiple users. TB! does all this and much more and for my needs, is the best email client available. As far as bugs are concerned I really don't know what you mean by that. I have been using TB! for some time now and I have not encountered *any* bugs in either of the versions I have used. Maybe if you are referring to a beta version you are right, but if that is the case then one would expect to find a few bugs! Finally, your final comment about going back to TB! being like stepping back into an old car(pleased to see you added *good*)well...we will just have to agree to differ on that also! I have always used PGP tray for all my signing, encrypting, decrypting and only installed the plugin out of curiosity. Needless to say, I far prefer the security of doing it the *normal* way. Thanks Marck! As usual TB! always has an answer to everything, and that was the last thing I would have thought of doing! Still, I think the plugin's action in this matter is far from ideal and not at all in keeping with a security function. I am no expert but why can't the unencrypted messages be read in a seperate viewer as they are when using PGP tray or GnuPG? Surely it can't be too difficult for the experts to get it to do that rather than to drop a copy in the folder. So far, I see no advantage in using the plugin over the tray commands. Aside from the *weird* characters it drops into my mails and the above security issue - the plugin to me is no quicker and no more convenient that using the tray or hotkeys function. SMTP authentication problems with The Bat!
I've been looking for a replacement mail client for Eudora, which seems to have an intense dislike for nested multipart messages. The Bat! and several others support this well ... but either they are full of security holes like LookOut or LookOut Fast, or cumbersome like Netscape and Pegasus, or not mature enough like PocoMail I like the look of The Bat and have been trying this out, but I've hit a major road block. My ISP, rogers.com, when they took over from @home, implemented an SMTP authenticated server, which even their tech support people don't know what type of authentication is actually used. A log of an exchange with Eudora, which works quite happily, btw, produces the following login exchange ... Rcvd: 220 fep04-mail.bloor.is.net.cable.rogers.com ESMTP server (InterMail vM.5.01.04.06 201-253-122-122-106-20020109) ready Thu, 14 Feb 2002 12:04:22 -0500\r\n Sent: EHLO new\r\n Rcvd: 250-fep04-mail.bloor.is.net.cable.rogers.com\r\n Rcvd: 250-HELP\r\n Rcvd: 250-AUTH=LOGIN PLAIN\r\n Rcvd: 250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN\r\n Rcvd: 250-PIPELINING\r\n Rcvd: 250-DSN\r\n Rcvd: 250-8BITMIME\r\n Rcvd: 250 SIZE 7168000\r\n Sent: AUTH LOGIN\r\n Rcvd: 334 VXNlcm5hbWU6\r\n Sent: c2Jsnip about 20 charsjb20=\r\n Rcvd: 334 UGFzc3dvcmQ6\r\n Sent: dmsnip about 10 charscg==\r\n Rcvd: 235 Authentication successful\r\n Snipped chars appear like encrypted random chars. Now, I've assumed this to be a CRAM MD-5 authentication. Pegasus and Poco both seem to work OK in doing the authentication, but I cannot get The Bat! to authenticate. I get the following in the log whether I enable MD-5 or disable it. +2/14/2002, 11:55:01: SEND - connected to SMTP server *2/14/2002, 11:55:01: SEND - WARNING: there were no compatible authentication mechanisms detected This is a show stopper for me to use TheBat! since I use multiple domains.
