Restoring old mail

2003-02-27 Thread stuart
Hello,

Before the 'you're a dunce' comments start I already know!

I have directories on my system with lots of old mail from earlier
versions of TB! but these directories are only the MAIL files, the
executable and general installation files have been deleted. I have a
spanking new (well a couple of monthes old actually) installation of
TB! 1.62 xmas edition which I use daily. Now I've always been a bit
blase with my mail and haven't done proper TB! administered backups.
So now what I want to do is access the mail in the old mail folders. I
have looked at Synchronistaion - but that doesn't work because the
actual installation files of the old mail have been removed. I have
looked at Restore - but that doesn't work because I didn't backup the
files with TB!. I have also just tried creating a new account with the
relevant name (i.e. the name of the directory of the mail I want to
see) and TB! tries its best to read the mail but gets a bit confused -
using directory names of existing accounts rather than the ones which
are in the new directory. So i want to know is this old mail lost
(theres 500mb of it!), corrupted, regainable or what - am i being
stupid (still) and if any of the above is true have I learnt my lesson
about being a little more careful with my mail archive (yes!).

any help would be gratefully appreciated

Regex help

2014-04-29 Thread Stuart
Hello TBUDL,

I am looking for help with regex. I need to export the text from an e-mail to
a text file. When I receive the email it looks like this.

asd, sdf, dfg, asd

Unfortunately when I export this is ends up like this.

asd, sdf, dfg, asd

This seems to be the way the program sending the file represents it.

Is there a way using the macro %REGEXPTEXT= to fix this?

TIA

The original e-mail shows up with spaces, but if you look at the message source

asd,

 sdf,

 dfg,

How are you exporting the email? Save As?

RegExp Question

2000-12-21 Thread Stuart Tares

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi there,

I am a new TB user and am trying to get to grips with the powerful
REGEXP within templates.

I subscribe to a mailing list which always ends it mailings with a
non-standard signature. The format of this is as below:

- -=-=-=-
[ SOME TEXT ]
[ SOME MORE TEXT ]

I though that it would have been a relatively easy thing to set up
but am getting nowhere. I was thinking that the logic for the regexp
would be:

1) Take all the text of the message
2) Set everything up to the -=-=-=- as %SUBPATT0
3) Set (-=-=-=-\n\[.*\]\n\[.*\]\n) as %SUBPATT1

You could then set %QUOTES to the output of %SUBPATT0. This is what
I came up with:

one Line
%QUOTES="%SETPATTREGEXP=""(?is)((.*\n)*)(-=-=-=-\n\[.*\]\n\[.*\]\n)""%
REGEXPBLINDMATCH=""%TEXT""%SUBPATT=""0"""
/one line

This, however, gives me two copies of the text both with the
footer/signature in it ! I am sure that I am missing something
extremely obvious but I just can't see it.

Any help is very much appreciated.

JA Ah, this is your mistake. %SUBPATT="0" is reserved for the entire
JA match. So in your case you're matching everything including the
sig.

Ahh! Now that I have gone back and re-read the help pages, this
becomes clear. I thought I had tried everything but obviously not
:-)

JA BTW, you can simplify the regexp to:
JA
JA one line
JA
%Quotes='%SETPATTREGEXP="(?is)(.*?)(\n-=-=-=-\n\[.*\])"%REGEXPBLINDMAT
CH="%TEXT"%SUBPATT="1"'
JA /one line

I was going to try to simplify the regexp once I had got it working,
so thanks very much for doing it for me. I was working on the
premise of making sure that I grabbed everything and then simplify
it.

Thanks very much for the help. I have found this group to be very

RM Or is it just a MSoft only thing

The ability to access Hotmail from OE is just a M$ thing. Even full
blown Outlook doesn't have the ability.

IMHO, I would recommend moving away from Hotmail as it seems to be a
honeypot for spammers. Why not try something such as operamail. This
still gives you web access and the ability to access it via either
IMAP or POP.

You can also do what I do, which is to use a bigfoot account to mask

The only way that I can think of doing it is to move the message to

copies the message to another folder.

If copying to lots of folders is required, you could probably do this
by marking the outgoing message as a certain colour group and then
having multiple outgoing filters which are triggered by by that colour
group - just make sure that continue processing is checked in the
options tab.

There certainly appears to be a number of inconsistencies in the
manner in which new messages are created. If you create using an
address book, some functionality works, such as secondary address in
BCC field which doesn't work in CTRL-N.

Fow example, if you use a nickname and hit tab in the TO: field it
expands it to the full email address. However if you have Nickname,
Nickname2 or full address, nickname the expansion doesn't work.

However, if you do Nickname1; nickname2 then TAB you get the expansion
but with a comma between the entries. The joys of using TB I suppose.

This is probably being caused by having another header which has Date
in it (such as Resent-Date:, X-Date: etc).

If you change the regexp to

%SETPATTREGEXP="(?m-s)^Date\:\s*?((.*?[\d]{4})\s*?([\d]{0,2}\:[\d]{0,2}\:[\d]{0,2})\s*?(.*))"%REGEXPBLINDMATCH="%HEADERS"on

Note the ^ before the Date. This ties the finding of Date to the
start of the line.

If this does not solve the problem, can you please send a copy of the
full headers and we will look at it.

composition window automatically comes up with the respective
template. Just as expected. However, if I forget to do it this way and
simply click on New Message then select their address from the
address book icon on the right of the composition window, their
template does not come up. Why doesn't it? I would have thought that
if you had a template set up it would automatically be used regardless
of how you go about selecting your recipient.

Yes! You are right about that.
But, if I just click on Create new message on the main toolbar,

Checking several mail accounts...but not all!

Hello, TB! 1.53d Windows 98 SE

I have two seperate accounts of my own, both with passwords. My
husband and son also have accounts within TB! Is there some way that I
can set my two accounts so that I can check mail for them both at the
same time? (without checking theirs?) Currently I have to check both
my accounts seperately which is annoying. I'm sure there must be a
way, I just can't think of it!

Well, I am about as much of a novice as you could get, and I love TB!
I was previously using Outlook 2000 but was becoming more and more
concerned with it's vulnerability. TB! along with my AV practices
gives me the highest degree of safety possible, *plus* many, many
added features which I am gradually discovering. The ability to sort
and filter mail, create individual templates for each of my contacts,
receive discussion group messages newsreader style amongst other
things, has given me an email client which does *everything* I could
possibly want. It is also highly configurable for multiple users,
which Outlook definitely was *not*. As a novice I am extremely happy
with TB! and would recommend it to anyone.

Reply-to email addresses

2001-08-09 Thread Carren Stuart

Hello TBUDL,

Hello,
This is probably a dumb question but I'll ask it
anyway!

Currently, my reply to address for my main TB! account is my
personal email addy. This is the one I use for most of my
correspondence - mainly personal letters to people I know. However,
occasionally I wish to write from TB! but *not* use that personal
email addy.

Is there a way I can alter the reply to email addy for
individual outgoing emails, without having to manually alter my
account properties reply to address? I am guessing that there is no
way I can actually do that.

Failing that, is there any way I can hide
my reply to address in the header information? In which case I could
simply add a mailto address at the bottom of my email. My secondary
(non-personal) email account is a Hushmail one, which I can't
currently access through TB! Otherwise I wouldn't have a problem!

Many thanks for any bright suggestions!

automatically appears elsewhere regardless of how you have your folder

Eudora conversion glitch

2001-12-10 Thread Stuart Burbridge

Hi all,
I'm planning to convert after years using Eudora. I'm fed up with its
regular attempts to call home and report what its been doing.

I have hit a bit of a problem with converting my mail boxes though.
The conversion wizard doesn't want to play at all. Leaving me with just
the convert from UNIX option.
This does work except for one problem: - The creation dates of my outgoing
messages gets changed. In the Folder view it becomes the date of
conversion and in the message headers it becomes 30th December 1899. I do
assure you I'm really not that old. :-)

Anyone else hit this problem and found a way round it?
I'm running Win2K SP2.

Message List Columns

I have just had an emergency reformat and am wading through
setting
everything up again. I chose to start from scratch with TB!

the
format.

Anyway, for some reason all my folders have different Message
List
Column settings. Is there a quick way to set them all the same
way (as
a default setting) or do I *really* have to do them all
individually?!

I am no doubt missing something as if one had many folders this
could
take a while!

One other question as I am also re-creating my filters. What do
most
of you use as the sorting string for incoming TBUDL mail? My
current
filter is catching most but not all TBUDL mail.

Thanks for your help!

Wow! :-)

At the risk of being scolded for continuing this somewhat OT thread, I
need to disagree entirely with you!

Prior to finding TB! I trialled Poco for some time and while I really
liked it - especially having come to it from Outlook 2000 - once I
also began to trial TB! I realised very quickly that TB! was (and is)
far superior.

If a pretty interface is important to you then yes, Poco has the
advantage, but if you are looking for an efficient, highly
customizable, powerful email client, TB! meets all those needs and
then some. We won't go down the HTML road again as it has been well
covered in other threads but for me, HTML is a non issue. I don't want
or need it and I certainly don't miss it. What I *do* need is the
ability to easily thread messages, set up filters and templates, use
an auto responder for my PGP key requests, format tidy and easily
readable emails, and have the ability to set up multiple accounts and
multiple users. TB! does all this and much more and for my needs, is
the best email client available.

As far as bugs are concerned I really don't know what you mean by
that. I have been using TB! for some time now and I have not
encountered *any* bugs in either of the versions I have used. Maybe if
you are referring to a beta version you are right, but if that is the
case then one would expect to find a few bugs!

Finally, your final comment about going back to TB! being like
stepping back into an old car(pleased to see you added
*good*)well...we will just have to agree to differ on that also!
I tend to judge my cars not on appearance and paintwork, but on
functionality and performance. TB! outperforms Poco and all the other
clients that I have looked at/used, hands down! :-)

Karin,

Not quite sure what you mean here. The kill dupes feature works fine
for me at both account AND folder level. I use it all the time.

It would seem that the problem lies with your eudora mail rather than
with TB!'s dupe killing function.

My apologies if I have misinterpreted your question! :-)

Hello all,

Somehow I inadvertently included an incorrect PGP Key request mailto
on some of my posts over the last few days. I have no idea how I
messed it up but could anyone wanting my PGP key please use the mailto
at the bottom of *this* post from now on. This one is correct and will
automatically send you my key.

Sorry for the inconvenience and if anyone has requested my key over
the last couple of days, please try again!

Thanks! :-)

Sorry but I can't find the correct URL for automatic subscription to

Consequently, I have gone back to using PGP tray for decrypting
messages so that I can be absolutely certain I have not left any

I have always used PGP tray for all my signing, encrypting, decrypting

prefer the security of doing it the *normal* way.

As usual TB! always has an answer to everything, and that was the last

Still, I think the plugin's action in this matter is far from ideal and
not at all in keeping with a security function. I am no expert but why
can't the unencrypted messages be read in a seperate viewer as they
are when using PGP tray or GnuPG? Surely it can't be too difficult for
the experts to get it to do that rather than to drop a copy in the
folder.

So far, I see no advantage in using the plugin over the tray commands.
Aside from the *weird* characters it drops into my mails and the above
security issue - the plugin to me is no quicker and no more convenient
that using the tray or hotkeys function. JMHO! :-)

Reply to - no quoted material appears

Hi,

I have an intermittent problem which is driving me nuts. Sometimes
when I reply to a message (or a post here) the editor comes up as
usual but with no quoted material from the message I am replying to.

Most of the time this doesn't happen but every now and then it does
and there seems to be no way for me to get back the original message
into the editor window. If anyone actually understands what I mean,
why does this happen? There is nothing I have changed anywhere and I
am replying to the message exactly the same way I always do. It
doesn't make sense!

Thanks in advance,

Carren

I am afraid that I don't understand why it is a problem to you! I am

from time to time. They have their own accounts and those of us who
choose to have our accounts password protected.

My three accounts cannot be accessed by anyone and the fact that their
accounts appear in the account tree doesn't bother me at all!

I don't use the ticker so the fact that other accounts are checking
for mail also doesn't bother me. I fail to see how it can be annoying.
If it the *sounds* for their mail calls that are bothering you -
either disable them or turn your speakers down! :-)

By the way, if it is the connection centre popping up at mail checks
that annoys you, you can hide that too.

I might be thick but I really can't see the problem!

PS. I have used PocoMail too ... but TB! is far superior. In my
opinion you would lose far more than you would gain by switching.
JMHO.

SMTP authentication problems with The Bat!

2002-02-14 Thread Stuart Brook

I've been looking for a replacement mail client for Eudora, which seems to
have an intense dislike for nested multipart messages.

The Bat! and several others support this well ... but either they are full
of security holes like LookOut or LookOut Fast, or cumbersome like Netscape
and Pegasus, or not mature enough like PocoMail

I like the look of The Bat and have been trying this out, but I've hit a
major road block.

My ISP, rogers.com, when they took over from @home, implemented an SMTP
authenticated server, which even their tech support people don't know what
type of authentication is actually used.

A log of an exchange with Eudora, which works quite happily, btw, produces
the following login exchange ...

Rcvd: 220 fep04-mail.bloor.is.net.cable.rogers.com ESMTP server (InterMail
vM.5.01.04.06 201-253-122-122-106-20020109) ready Thu, 14 Feb 2002 12:04:22
-0500\r\n
Sent: EHLO new\r\n
Rcvd: 250-fep04-mail.bloor.is.net.cable.rogers.com\r\n
Rcvd: 250-HELP\r\n
Rcvd: 250-AUTH=LOGIN PLAIN\r\n
Rcvd: 250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN\r\n
Rcvd: 250-PIPELINING\r\n
Rcvd: 250-DSN\r\n
Rcvd: 250-8BITMIME\r\n
Rcvd: 250 SIZE 7168000\r\n

Rcvd: 334 VXNlcm5hbWU6\r\n
Sent: c2Jsnip about 20 charsjb20=\r\n
Rcvd: 334 UGFzc3dvcmQ6\r\n
Sent: dmsnip about 10 charscg==\r\n
Rcvd: 235 Authentication successful\r\n

Snipped chars appear like encrypted random chars.

Now, I've assumed this to be a CRAM MD-5 authentication. Pegasus and Poco
both seem to work OK in doing the authentication, but I cannot get The Bat!
to authenticate.

I get the following in the log whether I enable MD-5 or disable it.

+2/14/2002, 11:55:01: SEND - connected to SMTP server
*2/14/2002, 11:55:01: SEND - WARNING: there were no compatible
authentication mechanisms detected

This is a show stopper for me to use TheBat! since I use multiple domains.

Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Stuart

CH They even recommend it be used with TB.

I cannot use my own SMTP server (or at least soon won't be able to)
and many ISPs are following suit, by blocking IP port 25 unless it is
to connect to *their own* server.

I tried with Mailgate, and it seems to do the job, just have to make
sure it's not externally accessible, since it would look like an open
relay.

Bizarrely, you can't. One of my feature requests is for TB! to write
the unexpurgated logfile somewhere. The sanitised version TB! presents
is fine until something really obscure goes wrong ...

Alastair

Uhhh ... yup that won't cut the mustard ... now to find out how I can log
transfers out the net connection (I'm on a cable modem).

Hi Bat Users,

Since TB! does such I good job of searching through my emails I was

I mainly receive Word/Excel and PDF attachments.

What I need is a mini local Google I guess.

Were they just plain text files, it would be easy ... but because it's in
potentially encoded formats (and in PDF because those can be images) it's
nearly impossible.

Date Formats in the Columns

2002-02-17 Thread Stuart Brook

I was certain that I had seen a way to change the format of the dates
printed in the mailbox lists ... but I certainly cannot find it - like
many other things that drive me a little crazy about The Bat! Finding
things is a challenge, and because settings apply at many different
levels, you think you've changed it for everything, but no ... you
just did it for that particular mailbox!

Is Options-Preferences-Message Lists what you are looking for ???

Nope ... Options - Message List is the colours
View - Message List Columns lets me get rid of the date columns

I just want to change the format of the date/time to, for example
the ISO like date YY/MM/DD HH:MM:SS without dropping the date for
today for example. I like consistency ... the variability of columns
etc drives me crazy (which reminds me, I should change to a monospaced
font anyway!)

downloaded 1.53d and did a check. And you are right. I could not find the Date

 Sincerely apologize for the trouble

Not a problem ... obviously it's something to look forward to!

:-)

I'm looking forward to a number of possible upgrades.

In some ways, I wish some of the settings were a bit better organized
and that if we want special settings on a per account or per folder
basis that we could enable additional settings ... and then get
access to them. It would save a lot of confusion. (Dare I suggest it,
like the FAQ, which I've tried navigating with frustration in IE,
NS4.7 and 6.21 ... In some ways, for the amount of info I've found, I
wish it were a flat file!

This is a quick way to be turfed off a mailing list ... most list
owners and participants object most strenuously to anyone, including
members, harvesting the list names for any kind of bulk mailing,
whether commercial or otherwise. If you want to send something to
every member of the list, that's what the list is there for.

Filter question

2002-02-20 Thread Stuart Brook

When filtering using Kludges, I'm kind of puzzled ...

For example, I get mail from a mailing list where the sender may be
one of
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
etc
There is no guarantee as to what node it will come from or whether
they'll introduce a new node. So, I'd rather not introduce a lot of
alternative filters.

As if that's not enough I get another list from the same hosts ...
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

So if I filter on kludges, from what I can make out, I have to use
alternatives ...

i.e.
sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
or
sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

etc

What I really would like to be able to do is say

sender: list and xyz.com

Is there any way to do that ?

Thanks

Stuart
