Account / Properties / Files & Directories.

You can change where your mail database is stored. It does not change where the
.exe file resides, but I understand you want to move the large mail databases.

I am using Gmail and POP under v10.2. However, I set it up a long time ago. Do
you have the problem with an existing account or are you trying to set up a new

Make it optional, please. In our business, we always need the full email thread

How exactly do you forward? Over here, pictures and other attachments are
forwarded.

My settings:

I use the arrow button to forward rather than the menu item.

Well I do that too. But over here it is not much work, because I highlight the
whole CC line and then copy and paste, and do the same with the BCC line. This

Disadvantage of the whole idea: Each time a mail check happens, the *.TBB files
are updated and hence Dropbox uploads the whole file. On a metered connection,
this can become very expensive...

It was worth trying out, though.

These are the learnings:

1.) The accounts on the different computers need to have the same name and
folder structures. (That's obvious)
2.) The drive letter where Dropbox resides must be the same on both computers.
(That's why it didn't work at first. Had to rename the drive on one machine.)
3.) Only one computer can run TB! at any time, and when you close it, you have
to wait until Dropbox actually updates all files from the first commputer to
the second.

Dropbox sometimes takes its time to propagate file updates. When updating an
account, I was surprised that the update was not shwon in the otehr computer,
then found this:

I also found the same "conflicted copy" for MESSAGES.TBB file. It took me a
while to figure out that the file was updated by Dropbox on the target machine
while TB! was open there. So, point number 3 above took some time.

I will now think of a good use for my new finding. :-)

Hello TBUDL,

So far so good: I pointed the Files & Directories for one account to the
Dropbox directory I had created for this purpose. Mail databases are
synchronised; I deleted a message in TB! on one computer, then started TB! on
the other, and the message is not being shown any more.

Of course, I did this with an account that I don't use any more. So I cannot
test sending and receiving, but I think it should work. I will create an
throw-away accout and give it a spin.

Mail database in Dropbox

2021-10-29 Thread Thomas Fernandez ML
Hello TBUDL,

I have TB! on two computers (PC and laptop) and always download seperately,
using POP. IMAP does not make much sense for me, as I am often in countries
with slow internet connections - let's not discuss this. I want to use POP.

I have a prefessional Dropbox account and use only a small amount of the space.
So my idea is now to move the mail database to the Dropbox folder, so it will
be updated automatically. In effect, I will have an IMAP effect including
flags, such as "read/unread" or "flagged.

If course, I will have to have the same folder structure on both machines. I
will move the database of the back-up machine (laptop) first, and then the
database of the main machine, as it will overwrite the files.

It sounds so easy and logical to me. Does anybody have any ideas why this would
cause problems? Any caveats?

TIA

Thanks Jerney, that's it! I have small icons enabled because I like that
better. Now I have disabled that feature (badges were suddenly enabled by
default) and the number of unread messages is shown.

Mystery solved.

I don't know whether it is technically possible, but I would like to see the
number of unread messages when using small icons... of course.

The web-based Help file is it. I like that it is context-sensitive; whereever

Got it. Not needed, I wasn't going to do anything in the registry.

TheBat! is installed and running. I had to register it again, which makes

It does not matter. Admin uses an old version, but I can upgrade that.

2xTB! on one computer

2021-04-16 Thread Thomas Fernandez
Hello TBUDL,

I want to install two versions of TB! for two different users on the same
computer. Each user has their own Log-on into Windows 7 Professional.

TB! is already installed for the Amin user. I want to install TB! for User2.

In the beginning, User2 was a standard useer, and Windows wouldn't let me
install the program.

Then I changed User2 to also be Admin. In the installation process, I get two
error messages: 1.) This user is not allowed to delete that probgram (which
program?), 2.) You do not have enough permissions to install a program for all
users.

Q1: I hope the TB! installer is not trying to delete the existing installation
for Admin.
Q2: How can I install TB! only for Usere2, not "for all users"?

Thanks for any help.

Do you gete any error message? The reason can be anything from wrong password
or a typing mistake in the server name. Once we have ruled those out, we can
look deeper.

Do you have the status bar enabled in your TB!? If not, please hit shift-crtl-L
while you are in the main window. Then check the account. After that, click on
the status bar (it's at the bottom), and it will open as a separeate window.
Copy and paste in your reply. (Hide email address etc if you wish.)

Thanks, Peter (and Stuart, who also responded), but I want to do this elegantly.     It is about having a "professional appearance."   I see the BCC trick all the time.  I know it works, but I have also received group e-mail where the address is to the group name and would like to know how to do that. Thanks.

Probably not very helpful, but since you mentioned "professional appearance": I regularly receive circulars from my embassy and also from different foreign chambers of commerce with their own email address in the TO field and everybody else in BCC. I do find that professional. - Just my 2 cents' worth.

I don't know whether it's the anti-virus in their case, but it may also be the
ISP. In my case, GMX will cut all trailing blanks. I don't know why, maybe they
wwant to save bandwidth...

Difficult to reply to you, as you are top-posting.

No, it does not make sense, as it means you cannot read it properly. And over
here, it does not have (even when I leave your mails as HTML), all lines are
properly wrapped. So I am a bit surprised that it happens to you.

Let me try to write a very long line because I have never experienced what you are describing. I usually use HTML/Plaintext but this time I am using HTML only. Maybe that makes the difference - no, it doesn't. At the end of the screen, the text continues here on the next line. Let me try to change the size of the window - nope, it still breaks (softbreak) the lines at the end of the window and continues in the next line. Resizing to full size changes changes the softbreaks as desired.

In short, I cannot duplicate your problem.

I wonder whether it is a bug, or whether the filters work correctly and find
the search string somewhere else in the many headers.

@Tom: Can you say something about this? Even if it is the whole email address,
maybe it is contained somewhere also in the headers? - Sounds like a weird
question, but I use search extensively and cannot confirm that there are
results that do not match the search string.

Instead of using broad searches like Header, I search specific headers such as
Sender and/or (as appropriate) Recipient. It works well over here, I do not get
results that contain any false positives.

I have a filter to move messages to a certain folder, and it contains only
three letters in Headers. I get a lot of false positives, because this
combination can be in any of the headers by coincidence or for another reason.

Unfortunately not. I was stuck with the default off-white (very pale grey) background with dark writing until they introduced the "themes".

I have not experienced the freezes you reported. "Automatic" and "Choco Dark" seem to be the same theme. They both work for me, and so does "Windows 10 Dark". So long as I don't try to compose a reply in HTML.

You cannot switch an account. You have to create a new account, and create it
as an IMAP account.

I did this for testing earlier, and you can actually have two accounts in TB!
for the same email account at the same time: One being POP and the other being
IMAP.

Try Account / Dispatch Mail on Server / All Messages. See if the old messages
are shown and if so, download only those.

Note that if you have many emails on server, it can take a long time until you

Go to: Account / Dispatch Message on Server / All Messages
Wait for the mail dispatcher to show the list of headers, it can take
a few minutes. Then hit ctrl-2 to toggle the tickmark off the Received
column for all messages, and then hit enter.

Alternatively, you can let TB re-download all emails and then use
Folder / Delete Duplicates. But that will usully take longer.

I don't think so. Sometimes we want first and last name (i.e.
including a blank) before the quote indicator. Otherwise you can just
set the limit to zero and it won't be detected mid-line.

Go to: Options / Preferences / Message List / Fonts.

Over here, it says Segoe UI, which is the orginal font set by Ritlabs.
Maybe this got changed unintentionally with an unknown keyboard shortcut.

Do you leave all messages on the server? TB musst download all headers
first to see which emails haven't been downloaded yet. That's why I
leave no more than about 3000 - 4000 messages on the server, which at
one account is 14 days, at another 180 days.

Account / Properties / Mail Management / Keep messages on server for
... days

> and sometimes it just goes on unless I have to DELETE TASK or ABORT

It goes on? Do you mean the it keeps downloading mails or it is stuck
at Getting...?

> Sometimes, it checks immediately as usually done.

It may also be an instable connection with your server.

> I have set auto check of emails every one minute.

Why? If you already checked your emails now, do you think another
important message that came a minute later cannot wait to be
downaloded for a few more minutes? If so, email might not be right for
you, yoou might be looking for an instant messenger. I check very 10
minutes.

Just some ideas.

It's a lot of work, and I believe Ritlabs can outsource it if tyhey

I don't have any reply option in the context menu while in the

This should be the file. Rather than deleting it, rename it (I would

can still rename it back if I am wrong.

This is not the directory you want to look in. This is the accoount
directory, under that you have subdirectories named the same as the
folders in your account. If you have not created any new folders, you
will find only the standard folders Inbox, Send, Trash (maybe one or
two others, I forgot).

So, if you have not created any folders, go to the directory Inbox.
Here you will find two files: messages.tbb and messages.tbi. It is the
latter that you want to delete while TheBat is closed. Reopen TheBat
and the index is recreated when you go to that folder in TheBat (may
take a couple of seconds if there are a lot of messages in there).

If you have created folders within TheBat and the error occurs when
yoou try to open one of them, you will find a directory with the same
name under your account directory. Delete the messages.tbi file in the
appropriate subdirectory while TheBat is closed.

Note: messages.tbb is your message base. If you delete that, you have
deleted all your messages. messages.tbi is the index file. This is
tthe file taht seems ot be correupted. If TheBat does not find an
index file when the folder is opened, it will create one from scratch.
This file contains the flags, such as "flagged", "deleted", "parked"
and so on. Therefore, previously deleted messages will show up again,
unless you compacted the folder after you had deleted them.

When you want to paste, right-click on where you want to paste to. In
the context menu, you have Paste (which uses the original font and
formating, same as ctril-V) and you have Paste as Plaintext

From bug report https://bt.ritlabs.com/view.php?id=1427 :

QUOTE

This is not a bug. We removed the DLLs for EWS intentionally. Please
refer to the release notes of The Bat! v8.0 at
https://www.ritlabs.com/en/products/thebat/revision-history/7026/

Quote: "The Bat! MSI installation package no longer include EWS DLL
files. As a result, The Bat! would not support Exchange Web Services

Between IMAP, POP and Exchange, Exchange is the worst. My university
uses it, and I fought with it for a while, but was happy when I found
out that the Microsoft Exchange server now also supports IMAP and POP.
Besides, Exchange uses a proprietary protocol, and TheBat has no native
support for it (any more).

Yes, I also tried IMAP with one account for a while, just to get a
feel for it. I'm back to POP only. However, there are some people on
this list who prefer IMAP.

You are right here, I bow to your experience. I have only be a beta
tester for TB for 21 years. My MSc in Computing is already more than
10 years old, and my programming skills that started in 1978 are a bit
rusty by now, so they don't count. I feel privileged to have found a
master in you.

Yes, as I said: It is the exception. The exception does not make it a
rule though. If I were you, I would not use beta versions with my
clients, but that's your decision. I would test the new releases
myself before upgrading, and if I cannot recommend them, would go back
to the previous release. Not any beta version; I would recommend them
only for beta testers, never for production and especially not for
clients.

But that's me, and people work differently. And here is a fact: I hope
the IT guy in my company does not install any beta versions on our
computers.

This is getting off-topic. Anyway, I am not a beta tester for Windows,
and the update is automatic. I am not following the Win10 version
numbers and never had a desire to go back to any beta version before
the release version that I am using. There is absolutely no reason to

Yes, beta versions can have problems, that's why users of beta
versions are called beta testers, and they participate in the beta
forum (or mailing list, as it is in the case of TheBat) and report
back. There is never a reason for someone who is not a beta tester to
download any beta version.

Once the release version is out, there is no need to revert back to a
beta version.

Otherwise, there would be something fundamentally wrong with the beta
process. I'm not saying saying this never happens in the world, I am
just saying it would be highly unusual if you have to revert back from
a release version to a beta version to make have a better version.

Here are the release versions:
https://www.ritlabs.com/en/products/thebat/archive-versions.php
The release version of v8 was issued after *all* the betas for v8. Why
you want to download a beta version with bugs that there fixed in the
release is beyond me.

If you are interested in contributing to beta testing though, it will
be better to subscribe to TBBETA and get the versions from Ritlabs
rather than from some unauthorised sites where you don't know what you
actually download.

So it is not an avast problem but a TB problem. I think we already
established that.

Yes. I did that some time ago, I forgot the reason. I have now
