Re: Change from Pop3 to Imap
Thanks for all the help with moving to a new pc! I'm actually back on the old pc, since the new one had a bad harddrive and will be exchanged. Now I'm wondering, how to best change accounts to IMAP on TB. Looks like I would have to create a new account. But can the message bases, folders and filters be imported again, once the new account is created? I always wondered if you could rearrange things with windows explorer. ANyway, if you create the new IMAP accounts you can drag the folders on the POP account into the IMAP folder or better yet into folders that are not associated with an account if you have a ton of saved mail that would otherwise sync back to the server Your filters will figure out the changes when you drag them to the IMAP folder but any templates in the address book, Account or folder will have to be recreated and edited -- Rick One day I will find the right words, and they will be simple. ~Jack Kerouac, The Dharma Bums Version 6.8.0.3 (BETA) (32-bit) on Windows 6.2 Build 9200 Current version is 6.6 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Change from Pop3 to Imap
But the filters will probably not work, if the folders are not associated with an account? Or will they? I have to admit that IMAP is mysterious to me. I have a lot of messages in some of the folders of on account. The other accounts are very simple. I'll experiment with one of the simple accounts first. ;) The ones in the sorting office should adjust to the new account automatically The ones in Folder will have to be hunted down and changed manually Current version is 6.6 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Move TB! from my OS C: drive to my separate data drive D: ??
I have backups done by Second Copy of the whole TB! file system and database, so should be safe enough, but how should I migrate a multi Gb TB! installation from my C: drive (C:\The Bat\) to a similar folder structure on my D: drive please, and is there any risk in this? Re: Move TB! from my OS C: drive to my separate data drive D: ??
Thanks Rick! Is there any point in keeping the working files of TB! on the (much faster SSD) C: drive, or might it be better to move the whole lot to the D: drive which is a RAID 1 pairing? Re: Backup Query
Hello Everyone, I have been running backups for several years twice weekly saving to two different drives. Fortunately I never really needed them but I sure would like to have a backup ready if disaster strikes. Looking at the backup folders, I am confused as to the output files: Backup 1 shows two files with different file names and extensions: a) TBBackup.TBKExt. tbk Modified 21/1/15 Created 23/10/13 Size: 7.685,533 KB b) TBBackup.$1 Ext. $1 Modified 14/1/15 Created 14/1/15 Size: 5,832,518 kb Backup 2 shows Weekly.TBK Ext tbk Modified 11/1/15 Created 27/10/13 Size: 7,624,364 It seems that I set up one backup via system/preferences and the second one via the scheduler, though both appear in the scheduler. I assume that the backups only override the previous one, so only the latest will be kept. Is that right or are there any settings as to how many versions are to be kept? The backup system is not smart although you can set it up any way you want. A wise person would consider copying the entire mail database to somewhere else. A winrar backup would do the trick. I say possibly because I was happily deleting them by pressing DELETE/ENTER/DELETE/ENTER over and over when suddenly focus moved to another message and I noticed that a message I had previously deleted was still there. So I stopped doing that procedure and thought it best to consult this list for info regarding positive deletion, possibly thru the OS or even somehow getting these messages to be openable. JSL It took me about an hour to correctly construct the above path in the JSL batch file MFPA provided, having been away from batch file programming JSL since DOS and the old C:\ prompt. Re: Need Advice on Backing Up and Reinstalling
MG I am currently using The Bat! version 4.2.44.2 on a PC with a Windows 7 operating system. MG I received an error message this morning saying that my copy of MG Windows 7 was not a genuine one. It is genuine and came loaded on my laptop from Dell. MG I called Dell support, and after trying a number of other MG workarounds, they've decided that my Windows 7 has become MG corrupted--or at least some files on it have--and I need to have MG the operating system reinstalled. MG They will work with me on this, but obviously it means I'm going MG to have to reinstall all my programs after the operating system is MG re-done, and that includes The Bat! MG My questions are three: MG 1a. Will I be able to reinstall the same version of The Bat? It MG has given me no problems, and I seem to be reading that people are MG having problems with version 6. I still have the MG thebat_pro_4-2-44.msi file from when I originally installed it and I do have my Key Block. MG 1b. If I have to use a newer version of The Bat! are there any MG changes I need to know about that will affect my ability to MG retrieve my mail from the backups? MG 2. What files will I need to back up? MG ---My mail directory setting in Preferences lists: %APPDATA%\The MG Bat!\ I assume this means my mail directory is in MG C:\Users\MSG\AppData\Roaming\TheBat!\Janus1 where MSG is my user MG name and Janus1 is my mail account name. I already back up my MG Users\MSG directory every night to an online backup site called IBackup. MG ---In addition, I do an automatic daily backup to a file called MG C:\TheBatBackups\Batbackup2.tbk This daily backup is set to back MG up all address books and all accounts. This also is sent every night to the IBackup site. MG ---Is there anything else I need to back up in order to retrieve MG all my mail after I reinstall TheBat!? MG 3. After I reinstall TheBat! I will copy my backed up Users\MSG MG file onto my computer. Do I also have to restore the .tbk file to MG The Bat! or will just moving the previous User folder be enough? MG Thanks for any help.
