You would just install and configure Microsoft Security Essentials
according to Microsoft's instructions. There would be no need for any
anti-virus plugins for email applications.

The answer given at
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/msescan/thread/dbf58560-5b0c-4ba0-9d9b-839e80f78ceb
to Does Microsoft Security Essentials automatically scan
incoming/outgoing email and attachments for viruses, malware, trojans,
etc.? is if you attempt to launch or save an infected attachment,
MSE's real time protection will scan and stop it. It does not use the
'smoke and mirrors' approach of scanning email that some other
products use which can cause issues with mail sending and receiving.

Well, I've simply installed and trusting it is going to behave
smoothly. I don't have IMAP configured to TheBat!, but POP3 protocol.
I am newcomer to TB! and was using Kaspersky on my desktop and now MS
Security Essentials to notebook.

Anyway I should give it a try to my Windows 7 x64 installed to desktop
and check about how fast does it behave along MS Security Essentials.

Thanks.

Hi,

Odd - I upgraded to v4 a few days ago, and it was still listed
afterwards. Oh well, I ended up deleting it. I have NOD32 installed,
I'll just have to hope that it wasn't a plugin NOD32 had installed,
and that my emails continue to be virus scanned...

Location of Anti-Virus Plugin

2008-03-17 Thread Grumpy Gamer
Hi everyone,

Does anyone know where the location of the anti-virus plugins in The
Bat is? I have an errant plugin (Generic DLL Plugin) listed in
Options-AntiVirus (with a status of 'error') and I want to get rid of
it if it isn't for an anti-virus I currently have installed. Problem
is, I can't tell which AV it belongs to. If there is a setting in the
registry or something that says C:\Program Files\AVG or something, I
will be able to tell which AV it belongs to, and whether I can delete
it or not.

when is plugin created by its vendor, like AVG, Avast or Kaspersky, plugin
is installed to antivirus home directory and program adds path to plugin
into The Bat!'s TBPLUGIN.INI configuration file.

If You have AVG instaled and You see Generic DLL Plugin in preferences,
remove this one, hit Add and browse AVG direcctory for correct BAV file.

Hi,

Thanks, that is what I was after. Unfortunately, I use the OTFE
built-in to The Bat, and that file is encrypted, so I can't read it :(

(I don't have AVG installed by the way, I was just using it as an
example of who this plugin may belong to as I have had AVG installed
in the past - I removed it a while ago, and I was thinking that maybe
the uninstallation didn't remove the plugin from The Bat)

Maybe I should just risk it and delete the plugin from within The Bat?
