Basically the answer to your question is yes. First I would make a "new current backup" vs one of your monthlies. Make sure that backup includes Account Properties, Folders with Messages, Address Books, Global Options and Attachment Files. Then restore only Folders with Messages from your 6 month old backup. The will keep account properties, address books and global options in sync with your current settings. Once you search/find for your missing email decide how you want to restore your latest messages from the "new current backup". 1) If you do nothing to the Folders with Messages from your 6 month old back and restore Folders with Messages from the "new current backup" you will probably end up with duplications. If you use Folders Remove Duplicates the program may or may not remove duplicates. By my experience, many duplicates will remain. 2) If you do #1 and have more duplicates than you like, delete all non-standard folders in each account and delete all messages in standard folders other than your original missing message. That should give you essentially a "blank" TB set-up with all of your account properties, address books and global options. Now if you restore Folders with Messages from your "new current backup" you should have everything back to where you started plus the missing message. I avoid searching for an old message in TB backups, I bcc all outgoing and incoming email to a Gmail account that I established just for backups. You may want to consider that for the future. It's a faster method of recovery. -- Best regards, Richardmailto:the...@newmangroup.com === Using The Bat! v7.4.16.45 (ALPHA) on Windows 10 Current version is 7.1 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hello TBUDL'ers, Assuming I have TB! backups going back one year (one per month) could I restore from a 6 month old backup and search for an email, then restore from the most current backup to bring me back to where I was? -- TIA, Jack LaRosa :usflag: :alabamaflag: Central Alabama Using TB! 6.0.12 OS: Safely back to Windows, Current version is 7.1 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re[2]: Backup question revisited
Hi Allie, As far as i can tell, no errors were displayed when doing the backup, however, since i use a screen reader that produses the screen contents in speech and braille, and since the screen is updating so fast, it may very well be that i've missed something along the way. Do the errors display in a dialog or do they just flicker by whilst the process is going on? -- /Krister Current version is 1.62r | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

It's also possible that you didn't backup all the elements or there was a problem during the restoration process. I've used the method you used without problems. The problem is that the backup is in a format that only TB! can handle so if TB! cannot restore, then you're in problems. Re[2]: Backup question revisited
Hi Allie, Ok, then no, there were no errors, neither in the backup or the restore process. It's possible though that i didn't make a common folder on my old installation, but i'm pretty sure i did. However, all my accounts were backed up, but only one account did show up, the one with messages in it. And no, i have the old installation left on the win98 machine. If you have any more hints to give me, please do so via email, since i've set the list to vacation mode, at least i hope i have.:-) AM -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- AM Hash: SHA1 AM Krister Ekstrom, [KE] wrote: KE As far as i can tell, no errors were displayed when doing the KE backup, however, since i use a screen reader that produses the KE screen contents in speech and braille, and since the screen is KE updating so fast, it may very well be that i've missed something KE along the way. Backup question revisited
Hi Bat! people, Sorry for the cross posting, but i figured someone somewhere might have an answer to this. I have just switched from a windows 98 machine to one with XP Pro, and i have made a backup of my TB settings using the built-in backup tool. When i made the backup, i chose to backup everything possible, that is my common folders, my accounts, (three) and my account and global options. When restoring, i only got to process one of three accounts and my common folders were missing. Pressing the key combo for scanning for lost folders gave the result that no folders were lost. What gives here? What's more, i don't have my quick templates anymore, but i have my folder and ab templates. How do i get my quick templates back? And the last question, what registry key should i look for and copy if my copy of TB is unregistered? I'd be greatful for any answer you could provide me with. Thanks much! -- /Krister Current version is 1.62r | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

It is a good idea to run a Purge Compress All Folders first - saved some 7MB (about 50%). Step 3: Unzip the whole zip file into the folder structre of the new computer. There is no need to create a The Bat! directory first, as this is part of you zip file. Step 4: Run the tb.reg in order to get the key imported into your registry. Step 5: Run TB.
