Firefox and The Bat! (for mailto:)

2009-10-07 Thread Andrew Webber
Hello, I'm having a problem with mailto: links in Firefox.

Windows XP, Firefox 3.5.3, The Bat! 4.0.38

I'm sure this used to work properly, but now when I click on a mailto:
URL in Firefox, Windows starts installing MS Outlook instead of
launching The Bat!.

I went into Tools | Options and searched for mailto. The possible
actions are:
-- Use Microsoft Office Outlook (default)
-- Use Yahoo! Mail
-- Use Gmail
-- Use other

I suppose I could choose the last option and point to The Bat!, but
before I do, I'm wondering why this is happening. On the Start menu,
The Bat! is the email program (2nd item, left side). In IE7, The Bat!
is the email program.

I also don't get The Bat! as an option under Control Panel | Set my
default email program (in that case, I get Outlook, Outlook Express,
and Forte Agent).

What's the best way to get this to work in Firefox?

Thanks!

Sorry, one correction to what I wrote above. After I posted, I tried
doing it in IE7, and though it says The Bat! is my email client, I
still get Outlook 2007 Setup when I clicked on the mailto: link.

I don't have Set my default email program in my control panel.

I don't know what is best but this works on my box. No guarantees it
works anywhere else. (-;

look at the file association for URL: MailTo protocol under folder
options | file types.

Mine says none. If I select that file type and click advanced and
then select open and click edit I see the following:-

Action: open

Application used to perform action:
P:\Program Files\The Bat!\thebat.exe /nologo /o:%1

Use DDE (ticked)

DDE message: /nologo /o:%1

Application: thebat

DDE Application Not Running:

Topic: tbDDE

The quotes shown around the path to my TB! executable and around %1
are as is.

The path to your TB! executable may be different than mine.
