I've never had any IMAP problems with Thunderbird. On the other hand,
it only provides rather basic functions, so the changeover shock from
TheBat is quite extensive. ;-)

Mulberry comes to mind when talking about IMAP. To my knowledge it was
the first program that fully implemented almost all nuances of the
IMAP protocol. This may still hold, but so does the quirky interface
and in recent time there have been no signs of developement to speak
of. The existing user base seems to be happy with the way it is, and
there is no drive to improve the program in any way.

Here is a link about IMAP Mail Services:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Message_Access_Protocol

Near the bottom, they list several mail clients. One that I hear is a
good one is Mulberry:

http://www.mulberrymail.com/

I notice that it is now a free, open source mail client. I myself am
not qualified to rate the different IMAP mail clients.

Hi All,

Firstly thank you Alto and Stuart for your advice.

Is there an email client anyone can recommend that plays nice with
IMAP? Please don't say Outlook. Thunderbird? Eudora? Anything?

Best regards,

Nick

The quality of TB!'s IMAP is still an issue. I use it and it is OK, but not
great. Others can't use it at all and others have no problems. It does seem to
matter on the settings, whether you download all messages or just headers, etc.
If you are using an IMAP server in house its hard to say whether some of the
issues can be eliminated.

That depends on your level of tolerance. If you have a feasable
alternative, take it.

No, not in the least. Improvements have been promised on various
occasions but have never materialized. The currently running promise
is for v4.1, which of course needs an update fee.

If you want to use IMAP with TheBat I recommend the final v3 version.
If TheBat happens to like your provider's servers you may be more or
less ok with it. If anything, it has been going downwards from then on
again.

IMAP (was "The Bat! in server mode?")

2008-06-11 Thread NickOhare
Hi All,

Firstly I would like to thank all the people who responded to my
original query.

Looks as though in order to set up a networked multi-user TB!
configuration I going to have to use IMAP. I've already done the
research for the server side, but now I need information for the
client side.

Can I still use TB! as the client. I've been a TB! user since version
1.x (maybe early 2.x) and consider it the best POP client available,
but I do remember a few threads on this list years ago discussing its
IMAP limitations. And when I say a few years ago it may of been 4 or
5 years ago. Has Ritlabs dealt with these issues? I would rather not
recommend switching over to another client.
