This is a common misunderstanding about XPSP2. It throttles new
connections to limit to 10 ports being unconnected at one time. This is
completely different to having 10 connections. It limits how quickly the
OS can open ports and attempt to connect to services. It will slow down
port scanners for eg. It won't stop them, just rate limit their growth. I
sometimes have about 100 connections open now worries.

I wouldn't trust any third party `fix' to SP2, esp. as there is no need
for it.

Well, whatever is limited, I ran into the limit almost hourly, so I
had to do something. Tweaking the registry has helped immensely. No
longer do I get the messages in the event log, but my Internet
connection seems faster.

You tweaked something else. :-)

It is very unlikely that you addressed the XPXP2 Event ID 4226 issue
by tweaking the registry. That can only be fixed by patching the
system files.

Are they all accounts on the same mail server? If so it may be a
limitation of the server set up rather than a problem in TB!/POPFile.
One of our domains would only accept three connections at a time to
the mail server - more than three and we had the same message as you
had.

Hmm... I think I checked that before - but I'll do so again. Thanks.
ALthough I do believe it's something to do with port limits or
something in WinXP

I can easily check more than six at the same time.

I do not use POPFile.

Is this a problem with Popfile rather than TB? I can check 11
accounts at the same time without problems using TB! and SpamPal.

I only have six I'm afraid, but have you set Allow concurrent POP3
connections on the Configuration pane?

If no one else can help, ping me and I'll set up another few to test
with.

While I'm on the subject, have you seen this link:
  http://popfile.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?HowTos/TheBatHeaders

It's handy to have the classification and POPFile link headers
displayed in the early days of training. I only worked this out when
it was too late.

I had the same problem without using Popfile. I could solve it by
setting the server timeout to a higher value in account properties --
transport (I selected 120 instead of the default 60 seconds).

I have the same problem with 4 accounts. The main account checks fine
and as I was watching the other accounts, they timed out.

I view the accounts on the connection manager.

This is with Popfile also. There is no activity at all on the other
accounts until the first one finishes.

I guess you could change the Timeout time for the other accounts so
they don't time out before checking. Not for sure but will give it a
try and see what happens.

Or you could set up to check the main account upon Startup. Then check
the other accounts later on, sorta stager them.

Will try out both and see what is the best way to go.
