Are you sure you are doing this when you have at least one of the
contacts in the group ALSO in some other group? In other words,
when try to add multiple entries into one or more groups you could
do it, but you lose any of the other groups those contacts might
have been associated with. For example again...picture this:

   GROUP FAMILY GROUP WORK
     Dave Jim

        GROUP COMPUTER GEEKS
               Jim
               Dave
               Beth
               Fred

          GROUP BAT GEEKS
             (want Jim)
             (want Dave)
             (want Beth)

Ok, Now say you want to add Jim, Dave, and Beth to the new group
   called
   GROUP BAT GEEKS

How could I quickly do that without losing the tie to the family
group that Dave belongs to and the Work group that Jim belongs
   to?

I don't see how the way you mentioned could prevent the reference
to Family for Dave and Work to Jim from being erased.
The only way I can see to do it is to find each person individually
and go to properties and add a checkbox next to this next group I
want them to belong to. Not a super big deal I know but I wish
   there was a faster way.
