Don't you just love computers!

I've since re-applied 0.8.0 now that I've got the dictionaries created.

I was having a look at the Bayesit log file and I noticed that after every
use of TheBat! I was getting:

17.02.2005 15:03:46 Current recalculation session is interrupted.

When I use TheBat! to check my email I'll start the program to download the
mail and if there is nothing of interest I'll junk the Spam and close the
program down. Normally this doesn't take longer a minute thanks to my ADSL
connection.

Could this be that this isn't sufficient time for Bayesit to retrain and
rewrite the dictionaries as a background operation?

And, if it isn't could this be an area of the program that needs revising?

After all, I can't be the only person that uses TheBat! in this way?

;-)

Why am I finding BayesIt so difficult?

2005-02-17 Thread Barry
Hi

Well, this is my 3rd and last attempt to get BayesIt to work. I guess I've
wasted enough time with it now.

I removed all traces of BayesIt from my install 'cos it just wasn't
working, despite it having over 1,000 spam mails to train on which I had
downloaded from TheBatWorld web site. I reckoned that these along with my
1500 good emails was enough training material for anyone!

Having a clean install I now find that BayesIt is complaining that the
dictionaries are either corrupt or not there.

Well its right on that one; they aren't there!

But surely on a new install Bayesit should create two blank dictionaries?

So what gives?

At the moment I have reinstalled, tried to train with 1000 Spams and 1500
good mails, but Bayesit complains that there are no dictionaries.

Any suggestions most gratefully received.

Hi Roelof

Yes I did, and that's what I'm finding so frustrating. I think I am doing
everything as I should but it just doesn't want to work.

The first time I was told by Marck that there wasn't enough spam in the
dictionary for it to work. OK, I accepted that that was why the mails were
only getting a score of 0.

The second time I came across the BatWorld spam message files so I tried
them that gave me over a 1000 spam mails plus over a 1000 of my own good
mails to train it with.

Then everything was being scored 99!

I don't like being beaten so I decided to try again with a clean install
but now I don't appear to have any dictionaries.

Also have a look at Spambayes. I switched to it after having a lot or problems
with BayesIT and/or spammails were not flagged as such, even after a
considerable training. The so called Nigeria emails were never flagged while
with Spambayes I trained it with just 5 Nigeria emails and never another
Nigeria email, despite the phantasy used by the senders, ended up in my Inbox.

Same here - I've been training it for months now with hundreds and

OK

There's definitely a problem with 0.8.0

I reinstalled 0.7.3, and after training both spam and nonspam dictionaries
were created.

0.8.0 does *not* do this!

So I've trained up with a 1000 spam and 1000 nonspam mails, so let's see
how 0.7.3 gets on.

Fingers crossed, but I'm sceptical. ;-)
