Problems on Windows 7
Hi, I recently moved my installation from an XP to a Windows 7 computer. There were a lot of problems relating to disk (paths not found). TB support said to rename the registry section for TB and that seems to have taken care of most of the problems I was having. Re: TB! and Windows 7 UAC
Hi Cesar, Thanks for your message. That's the problem. I give my permission every time TB! starts. Try the following: Find The Bat! in the Program Files directory, right click it and go to the compatibility tab. Check Run as Administrator. However, if I lower the warnings level from UAC (no warning, lowest level), nothing bothers me anymore. Well, to run the computer with an administrative account and turning off UAC is a very, very bad idea. That would open the door for more malwares like the one you got from that iPhone website :-) I should probably do that because as I read before from friends at TBUDL, UAC wouldn't help so much with security issues. Well, security wise it is always a good idea to run with the least possible privileges. So create a restricted user and if you need to install something make sure you scan it first for virus and malware and then install it using the administrative account that was created during the setup of the computer. -- Regards, Raymund Current version is 4.2.12.4 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

I tried different levels from UAC vertical cursor. It only works without restriction if used with no UAC restrictions (UAC cursor down). According to Danger and an article I read about UAC it really doesn't provide enough security as I was thinking before. Anyway Kaspersky had picked up the Trojan and eliminated it. Windows 7 The Bat and Gmail
I have started using GMail so as to get my mail onto my iphone easily. I love the labels approach rather than having copies in folders. I also like that threeads automaticallyt include replies without having to copy to the same folder. This plays havoc with TBs unread counts as IMAP from google shows multiple copies. I tried the latest thunderbird, an whilst it is vastly inferior wrt to many things including threading, it handles Gmail IMP much better. Hi Stuart! Congratulations. Can you now confirm the following bug: Well, he uses a different version than you do, so even if he confirms that doesn't help. Using Windows 7 RTM, when I open SmartBat there is no icon showing up in the taskbar. If I then change the focus to another window SmartBat disappears and needs to be reopened. At this point if you had scrolled up the page in SmartBat you position would have been lost. You're right there is no icon on the taskbar. You're wrong with SmartBat has to be reopened. If you don't maximize the TB! window and drag SmartBat's window so that it is visible all the time, you see it vanishing when the focus leaves the bat and coming back when the focus comes back. If by message store format you mean the actual format in which the messages were stored, fine. I can understand older versions not being able to understand the newer format. However, with earlier versions messages were stored on the disk in the MAIL folder buried in C:\Program Files\The Bat!\MAIL\Jack S. LaRosa\inbox The above location contains a file called MESSAGES.TBB which I believe are the actual messages. There's also a file called MESSAGES.TBI whose function is a mystery to me. After the change in the message store format was instituted with 4.1, where are messages stored now? TIA -- Jack LaRosamailto:jlar...@charter.net Sticking with with The Bat! ver: 3.99.3 for now. After the change in the message store format was instituted with 4.1, where are messages stored now? TBB files contain the messages, and TBI are the indexes. With 4.1, TBI files are replaced with TBN (one of the reasons for the change was to allow for message bases exceeding 2GB, but IIRC, there were a few other changes). -- Jernej Simončič http://eternallybored.org/ If you mess with something long enough, it'll break. -- Farmer's Comment Current version is 4.2.10.0 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
