Your concept was pure genius. I turned off all ISS program
segments and added them back one by one. I've isolated it to a
problem with their anti-virus segment (the reason I bought the
software in the first place). All works fine with anti-virus
turned off. Waiting to hear back from ZoneAlarm for a solution.

Many anti-virus apps do many weird things to protect the Internet if
your box gets zombied. They put in a proxy on port 25, or restrict
what .exe files can send on port 25. The proxies on 25 yell when you
try to send TLS encrypted email since they can't scan for viruses.

It all really chafes my hide. A pain in the neck.

Thanks. Your suggestion is exactly what ZoneAlarm just suggested to
me sans storing attachments in a separate/special folder. I questioned
their solution because I bought the program for incoming mail
protection. I guess I'll get that with the separate folder setting
thanks to you.

Thanks again.

ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

2006-10-20 Thread Richard Newman
Hi Batpeople,

I can't get ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 6.2 to allow TB to
receive POP3 mail. I've been working on this over the past 36 hours
with ZoneAlarm to no-avail.

TB receives POP3 mail just fine when ZoneAlarm ISS is not loaded. Both
Outlook Express and Mailwasher read POP3 mail just fine with ZoneAlarm
ISS loaded.

Has anyone run into this problem?

Sorry, I have not run into any problems with ZA, but I have not used
their suite - only the stand alone FW.

Can you selectively install from the suite? It might be interesting to
install just the FW and nothing else from the suite to see of that
makes any difference.

FWIW, I have ver 6.5.737 of the firewall. How does that compare to
yours?

I don't have any problems with the anti-virus. And, I do use the
all sections of the suite. But, I don't use the anti-virus e-mail
scanning function, because it conflicts with Spampal. And, if in The
Bat! you selected to store the attachments in a separate/special
folder, then the anti-virus will pick up a virus infected file(unless
it has been zipped). So, try by disabling the anti-virus e-mail
scanning(by going into the anti-virus advanced options). But, make
sure that you keep the e-mail protection active, and if you are not
familiar with it, the help has more information.
