C Can someone tell me if it is possible to make The Bat! not
C ignore text after the -- sig delimiter?
The only way I can see to do that is to highlight the message or part
that you want to quote, copy it and then 'Paste as Quotation'

Yes, use the %Text macro in your reply templates instead of the %Quotes
one.
