I did not mean to imply that these features were new and unknown. On the
contrary, I wrote the original query to the list to find out what happened to
them for they no longer worked for me. Fortunately I managed to get them to work
again by performing the steps outlined in my previous email. How those features
got turned off however, is still a mystery.

Thank you MAU for your thoughtful response.

Yes, there is. I have a user dictionary for Spanish that I called
"muuserdicesp.tlx" for SSCE and it is always shown when I right click
on a misspelled word and select Add to dictionary from context menu.

For SSCE you have to create a txt file in Mail/speller directory. The
first line must identify the language. For example "#LID 29552",
without the quotes, for Spanish. Open the .tlx file for your desired
language to find the needed #LID value. Save the file and change the
.txt extension to .tlx

For Hunspell, which I don't currently use, it is a little different. I
have two user dictionaries in Mail/dictionaries directory:

es_ES.udc for Spanish
en_GB.udc for British English

Hope this helps.

So, as a last resort, I had to actually search for the answer for myself. What I
found was that the dictionary controls are available only when composing a
message, as far as I can tell. Please see attached (I hope) screen grab. If you
are able to see the attached photo you'll see that SPELL CHECKER is in the top
menu bar. Clicking on that option yields the context menu you see. Although
AUTOMATIC CHECKING seems to be selected, I clicked on one of the other options
and then back to AUTOMATIC CHECKING. From that point on (as you can see) the
spell checker started working. Also, right-clicking on a flagged word brings up
a context menu which includes the option to add the word to the dictionary.
Given that you and I are using widely separated versions of TB!, YMMV.

I have no idea why it stopped working to begin with but at this point I'm taking
what I can get.

I've only just realised why I was having the same problems as John as
regards the English dictionary. When the international Bat is
installed there is no mention that the english dictionary has to be
actually selected and why should it be done in the Edit Message window
rather than in the main toolbar?

Anyway it is now installed and working thanks.

Thanks for the help. There must be a better way than this?

Surely this is a bug?

It works fine here. However I'm using TB v1.61 as you can see below.
Maybe there is a new bug introduced by v1.62

John, what I did was to go into the speller sub directory of my TB
installation and delete (rename to be safe!) the various US oriented
speller dictionaries leaving files such as sscbr.* thus forcing TB to
use the proper dictionaries.

I don't have the exact file names to delete ('cos I've already deleted
them) but with a little care you won't do any damage.

Doesn't seem logical to have to do this if a certain language
dictionary is installed and selected.

Why don't they make it simple for a change?

Use %language="br"%- in your templates.
As far as missing words and misspellings are concerned. You can add
words, but I don't think you can delete them. And I don't know where
RIT got their word-list from.
