Hi Januk,

On 13 October 2000 at 20:52:58 GMT -0700 (which was 04:52 where I
live) Januk Aggarwal wrote and made these points on the subject
of "Kill Dupes - and what else possibly?":

JA I just want to clarify one point:

 Your message, for
instance, had the ID [EMAIL PROTECTED] This is
JA^^ ^^
JARandom MMDDHHSS
JANumber

I thank you. I wasn't sure about it. I do have the formula for this
somewhere in the archives but, as Curtis pointed out, I was "burning
them candles" somewhat and couldn't be bothered to go on a hunt.
Anyway - point proved admirably ;-).

Do you purge and compress your folders regularly?

DRA Is there more going on here than I think?

In terms of deleting unduplicated mail ... I doubt it.

DRA Are there situations e.g. where a like-named message is killed when
DRA it is in fact a different message within the same thread? For
DRA example, the same author may respond twice to the same thread.

This would be ***extremely*** unlikely.

DRA I think file size would be perhaps the most reliably meaningful and
DRA absolute measure of a difference.

TB! uses message ID's to detect duplicated messages. If two messages
share the same ID's, then one is deleted. This is a more foolproof
method than message size.

This is the ID for your message:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]
 ^^
 This is random
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
^^
This is the date and time the message was created down to
the nearest second!!

DRA Everybody out there feeling really confident in this default
DRA technique?

I'm quite confident about it as is. How likely is it that two TB!
messages will have the same Id?:-) If you look at the format of other
message ID's for none TB! users, you'll see that it's very unlikely that
e-mail message ID's could be duplicated.

2000-10-12 Thread Januk Aggarwal

Hello Marck,

On Thursday, October 12, 2000 at 04:35:51 GMT +0100 (which was 8:35 PM
where I live) witnesses say Marck D. Pearlstone typed:

I just want to clarify one point:

   ^^ ^^
   Random MMDDHHSS
   Number

So the messageID is generated with a large random number then the time
stamp from your computer to 1/100th of a second. I'm sure you can't
send messages that quick to get duplicates. Plus with the random
number, the chances are *very* slim.
