I wonder whether it is a bug, or whether the filters work correctly and find
the search string somewhere else in the many headers.

@Tom: Can you say something about this? Even if it is the whole email address,
maybe it is contained somewhere also in the headers? - Sounds like a weird
question, but I use search extensively and cannot confirm that there are
results that do not match the search string.

Hence I suggested this.

Regarding the footer (cut mark) it's just DASH DASH SPACE ENTER.

I hardly do any searches for email, but if Header is an option, it
should work. You may need to open a bug report.

Anyway, until you are sure that searching Header works, for all
correspondence with one person you can search for Sender .OR.
Recipient.

Also, you may want to set up Options/Preferences/Address History.

Thanks,
I do use sender or recipient too but sometimes you are just searching for all
correspondence with one
person and then it would be good to use header. I think I did this in the past
without issues and only
in the last 3 months, I got that problem.

Sorry about the incorrect footer. Not sure how I set this up many years ago,
need to read up on this to
see how to correct this.

Instead of using broad searches like Header, I search specific headers such as
Sender and/or (as appropriate) Recipient. It works well over here, I do not get
results that contain any false positives.

I have a filter to move messages to a certain folder, and it contains only
three letters in Headers. I get a lot of false positives, because this
combination can be in any of the headers by coincidence or for another reason.

This won't be very helpful I'm afraid except misery loves company. I have
always had problems with searching my emails. As you stated above you get heaps
of results none of which have anything to do with the header entered. I get
those same results almost every time I search for something. It helps sometimes
to change the search target. Instead of HEADER you can try TEXT or ANY PART.
This works sometimes but not nearly often enough. Either we're doing something
wrong or it just doesn't work correctly.

BTW, apparently your cut mark doesn't work as you can see. It has to be dash
dash space. I think you're missing the trailing space.

search for emails

2020-12-27 Thread Tom
Hello Everyone,

not sure but it seems a setting in my bat has changed preventing me from
searching an email by header. I am sure I did this in the past and it worked:
using header: specific email address (either complete or parts of it), maybe
adding some other criteria

Now when doing so I am getting heaps of results which have nothing to do with
the header entered. So instead of using just header, I need to use text
brackets or something
less useful. Anything I forgot or has something changed?
