Re: [TCP] Missing RH8 Files

Yes, this has happened to me, and I recall one other person mentioning
it on another list. His solution was to just add the whole directory
back in, as did Gary, and that worked for me, too. Unnerving, is it not?

That reminds me (although the last time I worked in RH was in 1999, I
think, so you'll have to test this with the current version). The XPJ
file is readable by Access. It consists of a bunch of database tables
but no relationships, as all of the logic is handled by the application,
not by the database. Sometimes RH does some annoying little thing you
have trouble fixing (or blocks you from something that seems like it
ought to be simple), and if you know how to get into the XPJ file you
can often address the problem directly.

1. Make a backup of the XPJ file.

2. Change the file extension to MDB.

3. Open the file in Access and look around.

Make whatever change or changes you need to (being careful not to add,
delete, or rename tables or columns). Then close the database and change
the extension back to XPJ.

This method is suitable for people with some concept of how databases
work, probably not for others.

Re: [TCP] Missing RH8 Files

2009-11-05 Thread Rick Stone

Hi Dick

Actually the XPJ is an XML file, so I'd be surprised if you were able to
open it in Access to make the changes you are suggesting. You are likely
thinking of the former .MPJ file. That file was readable by Access and
was an Access database using a custom file extension. That file is still
present, but is now using the file extension of .CPD.

For what it's worth, there seems to be a pandemic of this issue being
reported in the Adobe support forums. We have been advised that the
Adobe engineers may have discovered the root cause. I'm very hopeful
they are able to resolve it soon.

Cheers... Rick :)
