I know that in the past when I had a problem with yum, I was ask to paste
in the entire yum output...
I would if I could. I do not know if it is possible to capture the entire
yum output with a fully-updated and installed FC16 x86_64 system as there
is over 700 packages...

If you don't currently have any 32-bit packages installed, you can just exclude
them like
yum --skip-broken --exclude=\*.i686 distro-sync
which is the command I normally use.
