Re: Spins testing and vanishing?
Soas is written for kids. Designed to be used as a live usb. Thus the installer was hidden so an install would not happen on the host PC. To installgo to the list view of the home screen (f3) scroll down and start terminal. Enter “liveinst” (liveinstaller). This starts a normal anaconda install. > On Dec 5, 2018, at 8:23 AM, "pmkel...@frontier.com" > wrote: > > Recently I was in a chain of e'mails on the Test List and someone mentioned > that the spins probably needed more attention than they have been getting for > test. Re: Spins testing and vanishing?
Hello folks, About SOAS: SOAS stands for "Sugar on a stick" so it's not meant to be used as a installed system but live from the USB stick or memory. However, SOAS was used as installed system in the earlier versions of XO/OLPC laptops. Later versions used Fedora with two desktops installed, Gnome & Sugar. The continuation of this project in Uruguay, switched to Ubuntu and as far as I can tell, it still uses that system. So, the option to install SOAS exists and it's possible but with some tweaking, it's not the default behaviour nor the purpose of this Spin. Also, as Adam said, you can install Sugar like any other desktop, in your system. Hope this helps. SoaS doesn't show an installer icon or anything as it's not really intended to be installed, but you *can* run the installer from a console if you insist (per Thomas' mail). You can also install the Sugar desktop package group from a network install, I think. -- Adam Williamson Fedora QA Community Monkey IRC: adamw | Twitter: AdamW_Fedora | XMPP: adamw AT happyassassin . net http://www.happyassassin.net ___ test mailing list -- test@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe send an email to test-le...@lists.fedoraproject.org Fedora Code of Conduct: https://getfedora.org/code-of-conduct.html List Guidelines: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines List Archives: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/test@lists.fedoraproject.org

try "liveinst" from sugar terminal in list view of f3 home to install. Spins testing and vanishing?
Recently I was in a chain of e'mails on the Test List and someone mentioned that the spins probably needed more attention than they have been getting for test. I volunteered that I might help out with that. I decided to check out the spins to see if there was one I particularly felt like I would like to help out with testing on. Over that last few weeks I have tried out KDE Plasma, Cinnamon, Sugar on a Stick, and Mate. After installing each one, I spent about a day familiarizing myself with it. Certainly not an in depth appreciation for their capabilities, but I became familiar with their basic approach and tools. Today I see news that KDE is likely to fall off the Fedora table. I think I will wait a bit before I decide on a spin that I want to help out with. Since my primary focus is Fedora I don't want to get started on something that will be going away. As a side note I didn't see anything that would pull me away from using gnome on the PCs here. Well that's partly because I have everyone used to Gnome and I don't want to suffer through a change. I must say however, having two grandchildren about two years old, that I found Sugar on a Stick to be very attractive and something I would like to be involved with. I have a question, if I may: I have seen SoaS listed as Live and as Live/Install. I down loaded it from the Fedora site. and I bought a copy from OSDisk. They were both Live only. Does anyone know if there is an install version? Have a Great Day!
