Sorry if this is a naive question, but I would like to install
CM-super in a local-texmf tree rather than the main tree which
contains updmap. What is the step I need to take instead of
editting the updmap script?

This correspondence has prompted me to write on a topic that has
concerned me for a while.

xputenv.c:79: xputenv: Assertion `old_item' failed
error recently thrown up by xdvi on my RH 6.0 system. I have only seen
the error with one particular file.
