It seems to be in teTeX, so perhaps Thomas E. has some knowledge. Unfortunately, I don't have any additional information. Since I am short of time at the moment, may I ask that someone else tries to contact the author? Meanwhile, I have removed the package, but I'll put it back if we get a free software license for it. The last thing I have found about Joachim Bleser is that he left the 'Hochschulrechenzentrum' of 'Technische Hochschule Darmstadt' at the end of 1996: http://www.tu-darmstadt.de/hrz/durchblick/db96-2/personal.html I haven't found much about Edmund Lang. However, Joachim Schrod (CCed) is one of the authors of extpic.sty which is in the same directory on CTAN. Maybe he knows something about their whereabouts. cheerio ralf

That will be very hard. Edmund and Joachim both worked at the Computing Center (HRZ) of the Technical University of Darmstadt (TUD). Edmund Lang died of cancer many years ago. He was a friend of mine, and his sudden illness and soon-after death was hard on all who knew him. He left a wife and three children, whom I haven't been in contact with since more than 10 years. Joachim Bleser is the principal author of picins.sty. He first worked as a TA for Edmund and took over his job when he had finished his studies and Edmund got ill. I don't know how to contact him. Maybe Norbert Hahn ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) knows somebody who still has contact with Joachim -- Norbert was at the TUD at this time already and is still there. AFAIK he does now the job that Edmund and Joachim did before. If he doesn't know how to contact Joachim, maybe Heinrich Honal ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) or Walter Reichenbächer ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) can help -- they have been even longer at the HRZ. (Walter Reichenbächer is vice-director of the HRZ, so maybe he knows how to contact previous staff.) At least distribution is not forbidden. True. I think that if the author doesn't wants to allow people to change the file, this is something we can live with. No, the current criteria for TL is FSF/DFSG-free. Modifications must be allowed. (Let's try not have this whole discussion again please. :) Thanks, k
