Re: dvipdfm compression

The compression issue in dvipdfm should be OK now in the TeX Live
development sources. If we can make a new release of TeX Live source
and binaries next month, it would then appear in all binaries

dvipdfm compression

2002-11-05 Thread Idris S Hamid
Dear gang,

In TeXLive6 compression in dvipdfm does not work in teTeX, though it works
fine in fpTeX. This is the error:

dvipdfm -z9 foo

You don't have compression compiled in. Possibly libz wasn't found by
configure.
Compression specification will be ignored.

Unable to set compression level--your zlib doesn't have compress2()

Sounds like a compilation problem. Is there a way to fix this without
installing a new teTeX or TeXLive (I need to keep Omega1.15)?

ps2pdf does work but I've had at least one case where ps2pdf did not get
things quite right whereas dvipdfm worked properly so I certainly want to
keep this tool.

best wishes
Idris
