The first caver that I ever met was a student at A&M in College Station
named Ashley Glennon. It was early October of 1984. He was the son of
Bob Glennon, an old-timer with the DFW Grotto.

Ashley and I made several road-trips in 1985 together on weekends poking
around, mostly ridge walking. He took me to Alzafars Cave ( I think ),
but we just poked around in the entrance. He mostly taught me everything I
know about The Hill Country - mostly about the good swimming holes and the
small towns. He showed me Jacob's Well - back when it was off the beaten
path. He introduced me to Mrs. Stahl - the owner of Brehmer Cave and
Little Brehmer Cave. He taught me how to deal with ranchers and find
caves. He taught me aboutvprimitive camping - something I was not familiar
with ( having only camped a few times before and only at designated
numbered campsites at state parks ). In the fall of 1985, Ashley became
sick with histoplasmosis and I would go to his dorm-room on the northside
of campus and check on him.

He left school a few months later and I never heard from him again. But I
would see his dad or younger brother at TCR. The story that they told me
was that Ashley was doing very well in Seattle with a big cell-phone
company in the late 1980's, before I knew anyone that even owned a
cell-phone. I think maybe something like T-Mobile.

In 1993, his younger brother Alan was President of the A.S.S., and I was
very active socially in the grotto then. He told me his brother had become
obsessed with LEGOs and was traveling the country doing LEGO presentations.

I emailed them both from time to time, but we had drifted apart and they
showed no interest in staying in touch. Although we are LinkedIn
connected.

Tonight, I was reminiscing and looked to see if Ashley has any YouTube
videos. I found the one in the link below where some LEGO fanboys are
interviewing him. I swear he has not changed in 30 years.
