At the store, "99 cents," is a hardbound pamphlet for kids on topics related to the Earth. A half-page is devoted to caves and shown below.

I guess my question to authors is that if you are only going to give young kids a half-page, what should it teach ? My guess is this book has a very limited audience of 3rd graders. Since kids are getting almost all of their cave knowledge from a cartoon or video game, or Hollywood, it seems important to find a way to properly teach them about real caves, and that can be difficult if they do not have easy access to caves, and cavers. Lots of people that shop at the dollar stores are the poorest folks, so at least their poor kids have some way of knowing about caves. Maybe what is needed is a 99 cent book, aimed at kids, that is focused on getting them interested in caving and cave conservation ? David Locklear
