Re: [Texascavers] Sad news
Jim McLane, a scholar and a gentleman, and such a pleasant fellow. Been several years since we visited and I had been planning on calling him these last few weeks to see if he was planning to attend TCR. Now, of course, it¹s too late. Enjoy your friends while you can. He will be greatly missed. Any further info would be appreciated. [Texascavers] Sad news
I got the following message from Australia and know that some of you knew Elery: It is with sadness that we share the news of the passing of Prof. Elery Hamilton Smith. He passed away yesterday, Saturday 27 June. Elery's contributions to World Heritage, as well as to Cave and Karst Protection and Conservation around the World will not be forgotten. Elery was involved in so many ways and we will all remember him for something different I am sure. Our thoughts are with Angela and family. There will be a memorial service held this week, Wednesday 1/7/2015 in Melbourne, Australia. An article on Elery is being planned for the next issue of the UIS Bulletin. I'll send an announcement when that issue is posted on the UIS website.
