The great news is it looks like we are still above the green grass. I
have not
found any obituaries lately.

So I thought I would try something more historical along the same lines.

Take a look at the link below - a pdf of an old NSS Journal and skim thru
the first article - the one about the first filming
of a cave. One of the co-author's of that article was a guy named Emil
Coufalik

     https://caves.org/pub/journal/NSS%20Bulletin/Vol%2044%20num%201.pdf

Anyways, he passed away 17 years ago, but I stumbled on to his obituary
while surfing the web.
I thought I would post it here, for historical interest or to allow people
to pay their respects
in some way.

Former general practitioner in London (*b* Vienna 1925; *q* Brno 1950),
died on 18 April 2001
After earning a PhD in natural sciences, he then specialized in
pediatrics. From 1964 onwards held a consultant position in several
hospitals, including one in Prague. While on a study visit to Paris in
1968, he decided not to return home because of the political situation and
instead came to London. He held several pediatric posts until 1975, when he
joined the staff of the Medical Research Centre in Harrow; here he spent
three years studying the causes of non-gonococcal urethritis.

He was then in general practice for almost 20 years until retirement.

Emil was a fellow of the Linnean Society and had many other interests
outside medicine. He studied speleology and wrote a book on the work and
life of Karel Absolon, discoverer of the Punkva caves near Brno. He loved
classical music and was a multilinguist. He read widely and had an
extensive library.
